Yes, yes, we all know that would never happen, I'm just interested if people on here would do it.

Only if the Cubs could then flip Lugo to another team (perhaps Lugo, if some of the money is kicked in). Which I doubt.

I'd trade him straight up for Drew.

The money is similar (Sori averages atleast 16 mill per till 2014, and Drew's is $14 mill per till 2011). The differences is three yrs. Which means BoSox would want the Cubs to take Lugo ($9 mill per yr till 2011) along with Drew. Which means, the BoSox would have to take Jason Marquis ($9.9 for 2009) only), along with Soriano. So the deal would have to be Soriano/Marquis for Drew/Lugo.

This would only work, if the Cubs can flip Lugo to another team, cause the Cubs don't need Lugo.

Drew is overpriced and always injured and Cedeno/Theriot>Lugo.

Soriano is overpriced and always injured. Lugo is probably better than Theriot.

I'd trade Soriano for Drew or Soriano/Marquis for Drew/Lugo. Then I'd trade Lugo somewhere. But no one is going to take Soriano's contract. I try not to think of how horrible it's going to look those last 3/4 years.

It might not be a bad trade when you consider the production out of a Drew/Johnson or Drew/DeRosa platoon in LF. Of course, we might be kicking ourselves when Soriano gets into his streak and starts hitting HRs everyday.

I'd do it straight up if only to get out of the back end of that horrible contract. I'm not sure people realize how much of a burden that contract is going to be

Lugo still projects as a league average hitter, which is better than either option the Cubs have in-house. He's probably not that much better than Cedeno so you move either one of them. Eat a third of Lugo's contract and trade him. Doesn't matter.

The differences between Drew and Soriano's OBP make them basically the same player on offense, and Drew would be an defensive stud as an NL LFer (like Soriano). He also doesn't have an aversion to playing the other positions.

Murton could be useful again as a bench player in a platoon situation with either Pie or Drew because you have three guys that can play CF running around, or you use Pie to get the 1.2b pitcher or whatever that some other thread says the Cubs need.

And the money. You can pay both of them and save $40 million right off the top. You also aren't sinking $80 million in four years into a likely so-so player after the championship window is probably closed. No brainer.

I'm pretty much in agreement with this. That Soriano signing was beyond stupid, and while I like the guy, anything that gets us out of his contract is wonderful.

I'd rather trade Soriano 3 years from now. I don't think he'll fall of a cliff that quickly.

who is going to take a 35-year-old Soriano with 3 years at $16m left on his contract?
