Probable Starters:

Iowa: RHP Sean Gallagher (1-1, 2.30 ERA, 15.2 IP, 13 K/4 BB, .217 BAA)

Tennessee: RHP Mitch Atkins (1-1, 5.52 ERA, 14.2 IP, 13 K/5 BB, .288 BAA)

Daytona: RHP Chad Fox (2005 w/ Cubs: 0-0, 6.75 ERA, 8 IP)

Peoria: RHP Dae-Eun Rhee (3-0, 0.56 ERA, 16 IP, 15 K/4 BB, .145 BAA)

For Daytona, Chad Fox will pitch the first inning and RHP Alex Maestri (1-0, 1.15 ERA, 15.2 IP, 12 K/6 BB, .218 BAA) is likely to follow.

The aforementioned RHP Chad Fox along with LHP Scott Eyre have been added to Daytona's roster on rehab assignments. RHP Ryan Meyers was released.

The 10:30am start is the best thing to happen to baseball since integration.

Seriously, I get into work and it's already the bottom of the 1st inning and I can easily listen since none of my supervisors come in.

Apparently Adam Harben, not Alex Maestri, is piggybacking with Chad Fox. Don't know why, it would be 4 days rest for Maestri and it's 3 days rest for Harben.

Fox: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 K, 0 BB, 1 GO-1 FO.

I can't believe Chad Fox is back pitching again. And the fact that he's doing it for the franchise that tried to murder him live on the field.

I hope he can make it back somewhere(as I doubt he makes it with us, other than in September if there's room)

I should probably find a way to go see Rhee before he gets moved.

Honestly, given that this is U.S. debut and given his young age, I don't see Rhee going anywhere till August (unless he's planning on posting a sub-1 ERA, a sub-.1500 BAA and nearly a K per IP all the time).

I think he knows it was Baker and not the franchise that did it.

That was kinda my plan. If he's into June and has his ERA sub 2, I want him gone.

Outside of Tony Thomas and Wellington Castillo, there's nothing pretty about Daytona's offense (and Adduci, I guess). Daytona loses 2-1.

Am I correct when assuming that rehabbing pitchers Eyre and Fox don't count as rostered players assigned to the team, so Daytona didn't have to release Ryan Meyers to make room?

I wonder why they chose to release him so quickly this season. He was just acquired this offseason and probably didn't have his best stuff yet. I would have preferred sending him to Mesa to regain velocity or whatever he needed, but releasing him already seems hasty. That is an admission that he was not a good player to ask for in the trade (I think Angel Pagan for Corey Coles & Meyers).

Anyone know if there are other reasons why Meyers was released so soon (besides poor production)? Bad attitude? Didn't want to pitch? etc.

Yikes, Gallagher with 8 strikeouts already through 5 innings...did give up a solo HR and Iowa is up 4-1. Only 67 pitches through 5 too, let's see how long Sean can go today.

Well, he is OPSing .960 but yeah.

10 K through 6 for Sean, it's still a 2-hitter...

Sean can't get out of the 8th. :(

BB

4-6-3 GIDP

Ground single to RF.

Pulled for Ascanio.

Ascanio gets a groundout to get out of it. Sean's final line: 7.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 HR, 12 K, 1 BB, 101 pitches. Not too shabby!

Oh yeah, Iowa ended up winning 5-1.

Outstanding outing for Gallagher. So his pitch count has been elevated, bumped up from 80-pitch range up to 100 now, apparently. Man, if he'd been pulled after the 6th his last start, instead of staying in and putting 3 runners on and getting blamed for 3 runs, his numbers would look incredible.

It's interesting how he can do it in different ways on different days. Last game it was GB galore. today living off the K, not that many groundouts. The ability to have different ways of winning is crucial to successful starters.

peoria, in past it seems Sean has done a lot of experimenting with his breaking pitches. At times it was curveball, slider on the shelf. (Midwest league, that was the story.) Other times, he was getting the slider back in (I think at Daytona that was the story, but then I thought he benched the slider again because it was taking away from his curve, or something.) I thought the word last fall was that he was going back more toward more slider, less curves. And he's used a couple of curves, right, a bigger slower one and smaller one that's easier to locate for strikes.

Do you know where he's at in balancing slider, big curve, and slow curve? Does he use all three? Pick which ones feel good on a given day? Basically going with more sliders and occassional curves? Just curious.
