how are we doing against non-pirate pitching?

The Cubs' lineup boasts a MAJORITY of hitters that can take a walk at this moment. This is so confusing. Loving the patience that Soto and Fukudome have added to the lineup. Fukudome's 14/13 K/BB ratio is awesome, as is Soto's 10/12...and Aramis is walking at career-high rate. I don't expect it all to last to this degree, but just trending in that direction is a great improvement.

DLee is on pace for 67 home runs.

Ryan Theriot has a higher BA/OBP/SLG/OPS than Aramis Ramirez.

That won't last till the end of the month. Or at least I hope (For Rammy's sake)

They were saying on the Cubs' post-game that the Cubs are leading the league in pitches per AB.

I was going to post this as well - I thought I heard Len say it on the broadcast Friday but I couldn't believe it.I thought I heard right at 4 pitches per pa.................... In those wonderful Dusty days I think we used to average 4 pitches per inning

Ramirez is walking at an insane rate this year. I think he has 11 walks already after 40 something all of last season

He keeps complaining that he's not getting good pitches. That's funny considering we are batting Fukudome in a non-optimal spot to protect him.

The fact that he's "only" on pace for 67 makes what Bonds (and McGwire) did seem that much more absurd.

A Chicago Cub catcher leads the NL C's in walks.

Ok its the Soto man so its not to be suprised.

2nd in all of baseball for catchers in OBP and 1st in OPS.

Suck it NL and suck it for long time.

And Sosa. Apologies for including some triple crown stats, but DLee is on pace for:

67HR, 143 RBI, .356/.407/.726 (1.133 OPS)

Sosa's 2001

64HR, 160 RBI, .328/.437/.727 (1.174 OPS)

I really like what I've seen from the Cubs so far, but talk to me after the Mets series.

x2... I want to see how they look after playing some better teams... Then again, if you take the Cubs losses off the Pirates record, they don't look too bad... Hmmmm.

Those stats will almost certainly win the triple crown in this day and age.

Through 17 games, the only Cubs regulars with an OPS+ under 100 (below average) are Aramis Ramirez and Alfonso Soriano.

Imagine when Ram really kicks into gear.

Aramis AND Soriano. We're tearing it up offensively with two of our biggest three bats stinking it up.

i'm thinking that derosa will be hard pressed to keep up that .321/.426/.571 line, and theriot may not finish with an .800 OPS.

Exactly why it's important that we're getting what we're getting without our big bats. It's looking somewhat realistic to keep up a pace similar to what we're on as a team. If our starting pitching gets back to form, our offense is more than good enough. Z should be good for 20 this year.

Big props to everyone for their plate patience and pitch selection. I hope Theriot continues to hit well. I like it even more that Cedeno is contributing in his limited role.
