3B Vitters added to Peoria, IF Mota sent to Daytona.

Josh will meet us in Great Lakes this afternoon. As will OF Leon Johnson. Drew Rundle back to mesa.

Fantastic.

Peoria went from being last year's least interesting affiliate to hands down the most interesting this year.

Agree on both. This is great news. And this is a fun team.

Fantastic news. I am disappointed with Rundle's continued struggles.

It would be interesting to hear the reasoning, and not just the public one. I thought I'd read he was bound for Boise, was that just speculation by the ill-informed or has he changed some minds?

There were some stories that he could end to Peoria once the season had gotten under way (though those made it seem like it would be more like May-June). Those were mostly stories from Peoria-area papers who I thought might have been hyping things up for the local fans.

His bat was ok in Mesa though his glove was bad (seemed like he averaged an error a day in those games), so I don't think his play changed minds.

I think this will be fantastic, great, and fun..... if Vitters is able to hit.

If he runs a .115 OBP, and has more errors than total bases, it might not be fantastically fun.

Either way, will be nice to have box scores so we can see how he's actually doing, without needing to depend on periodic AZ Phil reports.

Craig, I'd expect the Cubs wouldn't have sent him up to Peoria after holding him back for 3 weeks if they didn't think he'd hold his own at least.

Hearing about all of Vitter's defensive problems got me to wondering. What kind of adjustments have to be made when you start playing on a pro field as opposed to a highschool field. Are the deminsions completely different? I never played or watched much highschool baseball. Im guessing that if he had as many problems handling 3rd in Highschool they would have moved him to the outfield. Im wondering, what are the major obstacles? Montenez couldnt handle the transition very well either. Is it common for highschool infield prospects to be unable to transition thier defensive game to the pro level? The hitting challenges are pretty easy to understand but I never really gave much thought to the defensive part of the transition.

batting 8th and playing 3rd tonight...and for our quick research he is:

A. The YOUNGEST player in the MWL as of today

B. The highest draft pick in Chiefs history not counting rehabs...Luis Montanez was also a 3rd overall pick...five years before he wore the Chiefs uniform after his position switch

The dimensions are the same, the quality of field is probably different. And you also have faster runners down the line so you can't take your time making the throw to 1st and may feel rushed, guys hitting harder shots at you, probably some better bunting to deal with.

AZ Phil was talking to Josh's parents last weekend and they said Josh wasn't in Peoria because of a blister problem during March:

Josh Vitters' parents were at the EXST game at Fitch Park last Saturday, and they were saying that they had just returned from visiting their older son (Christian), who is a third-baseman for the Oakland A's Kane County team in the Midwest League. And they also were saying that in a way it was good that Josh was able to remain in Arizona, because the weather was better here than it was back in Illinois when they were there.

But when somebody asked them whether Josh was expecting to stay in Mesa for the Summer or go to Boise, they said he would be going to Peoria. And that the only reason Josh had been left at Extended Spring Training was because he had a blister problem on his hand at Minor League Camp that kept him from swinging the bat as well as he normally did.

That'd be great if that was the reason he didn't look as good in ST and earlier in extended ST. Maybe there is a rhyme and reason to what the Cubs do.

I don't care about their rhyme or reason. Should have picked Porcello.
