E Patt goes up and now ladies and gents.. you can make it official.. the Cubs want NO PART of Matt Murton anymore.. sad..

I just think it's a top of the order thing. The Cubs want a guy who could lead off and they thought the best choice is Patterson. Their one dimensional thinking led to this imo, not a dislike of Murton.

"We like Murton, we think he's gonna be a great ballplayer. Life would be a lot easier if Matt were a switch hitter, an emergency catcher, ran a 4 minute mile and made a mean guacamole dip."

Fiesta Night at Wrigley would be awesome, but it will never come to fruition because of Matt Murton

If that were true, wouldn't you be happy with the guy with the career .365 OBP, currently sporting a .442 OBP in the minors over the guy whose OBP last year in AAA was .362 and this year is .282? There is no logical reason to add a 5th second basemen to this team when the starting LF goes down and Murton is available in AAA.

Well look at it this way, it should give Pie more AB's! They have to be thinking that Patterson can play left, SS, CF along with 2B though. Murton is a LF guy only and serviceable in right on a good day. Again, I'm not saying I agree with it but it does add some depth to the bench that has only 13 guys. It may be possible that isn't thrilled with Cedeno/Theriot and wants to see if Patterson could fill one of their spots as well once Sori comes back.

Patterson can't play SS so he can't take Theriot/Cedeno's spot, and we already have a whole damn team of utility infieldersman from Christmas Story>

Good old Chicago Chipmunks. He played it a little during the spring and I'm sure he can go there in a pinch plus they might be comfortable getting Ward some time there as well. I'd like to hear what the Cubs have to say about this move.

I don't have time to read the last 6 pages... I know that Sori was put on the DL and Patterson was called up. Any other important info related to it? Lineups, length of DL stay, why Murton wasn't called up?

Lost in all of this is the fact that Murton would make a better leadoff hitter than any of the options that are actually under consideration.

Murton wasn't called up, from what I hear, because Patterson is more fit to be a leadoff man and that is the glaring hole right now.

More accurately, that is what the Cubs perceive as a glaring hole. In reality, it couldn't matter much less.

So, as of right now, no one has any idea as to the severity of Soriano's injury beyond that it is DL-worthy?

Apparently Soriano's foot became completely severed from his leg during the hop. It'll probably be a couple of months before he's back in the lineup.

It isn't expected to take longer than the full 15 days of the DL stint.

The cub had a hole at leadoff before he was hurt so really, nothing has changed.

There's a gaping hole in this thread.

You've got to give him full marks for persistence.

No, it's true. The Cubs like Matt Murton as a person just not so much as a player. I feel the same way.

Cubs fans never cease to baffle me.

Players like Aramis get busted on for being "lazy" and Murton is somehow regarded as abust or generally not good, Hill is a complete headcase and should be in relief, but then they'll fight tooth and nail for someone like Theriot and demand he gets as many A's as possible starting at the top of the order.

Aren't you a Cubs fan?

And who's "fighting tooth and nail" for Theriot? If anything I think most (at least on this bd) are in favor of relegating him to bench status in favor of Ronny.

You truly do love your hyperbole, don't you?

Personally, I was guilty of supporting Theriot but frankly I don't care who they play at SS anymore (although Theriot has been hitting the ball the last couple games). Whoever does play SS should hit 7th or 8th.

As far as your Hill comment, that is just silly. The Cubs put him in the pen for only 2 games yet you act as if the Cubs, and those who supported this TEMPORARY move, want to banish him to the bullpen forever and never see him again. You do realize he's starting Friday, and like most who supported this temporary move, I'm hopeful a few extra bullpen sessions helped him mechanically.

Ya know I can understand people saying Murton is just a 4th OF. I don't necessarily agree with it, but can at least understand where they're coming from. I have no damn clue how somebody can support him being 9th on our OF depth chart.

And BCVM, that was pretty much the funniest thing I've seen on here in years.
