Has Kyler Burke done anything of note yet so far? I've been trying to look at the results from the game threads but haven't seen him play much. Any reason for that?

There is a glut of players who can play the OF and 1B down in Peoria. Between Burke, Rundle, Andersen, Rosa, and Johnston, there are only so many places they can play. Moreover, for whatever reason, Blake Lalli has secured a hold on the DH spot.

Should be playing Rosa at third over Smith too. [-(

Just to give everybody a heads up but tonights "Iowa Cubs" game has been cancelled. It was only a matter of time until all this airline stuff caught up with their travel schedule. They had a 5am wake-up today to catch their flights and half the team from what I have heard is still in Detroit. :banghead:

Well hell. At this rate, Iowa will be playing tripleheaders this summer.

can't say i'm upset about gallagher not starting tonight. the temperature is probably going to be in the 30s and it's windy out there. type of whether where a pitcher can't get loose at all.

Huh, some *interesting* changes for the Peoria lineup... Marwin Gonzalez goes from leadoff to the 3 spot. Drew Rundle (.182/.280/.364) is leading off today. Jovan Rosa and his second-on-the-team OPS of .802 is batting 7th. Dylan Johnston and his team-leading .857 OPS bat 8th.

Nothing like seeing .182 as the leadoff BA, .143 from the 2 spot, .115 batting cleanup (a consensus top 10 prospect in the system) and .167 batting 5th (the dude who beat out Vitters for the Peoria 3B job).

Tennessee rained out.

Steve Clevenger finally got a hit this season! Daytona up 4-1 in the 8th. Maestri was solid outside of 5 walks in 5 innings.

Rough outing for Cabrera. :( Andersen and Rundle each have a double and Donaldson have two doubles. :) Peoria down 9-3 in the 6th.

Rundle has been supremely disappointing thus far. I had high hopes for him out of the draft.

he was a high school hitter drafted by the cubs, that should've tempered your enthusiasm right away.

Rundle was one of the three best high school outfielders chosen by Baseball America preseason, along with Travis Snider. Then the season happened.

It has been "interesting" to see how things have been shaken up to start Peoria's season. They've definitely got personnel issues with seemingly too many players to fill a certain number of spots (OF, DH, 1B). But with that said, it's way too early to draw any conclusions on our hitters - one, it's been in the 30's and 40's, and two, it's the Midwest League. They'll get 'em cranked up soon!

Unfortunately for the guys, when you start in a league like this that has weather like this, inconsistent playing time can only hurt the already slow start (by almost all of them). It's a double whammy for their confidence. Anyways, Go Chiefs!

Cal, I noticed that too. At first they listed the bad 6th inning outing by the bust we got for Pagan onto Maestri's line. His line looked a lot better after they removed that.

Maestri has yet to get cruising comparable to what he was doing last year. His K/BB and WHIP were great last year, and that hasn't been the case in his two starts yet. at the same time, he hasn't confirmed the "ill-suited-for-rotation" view, either. Hopefully he'll continue to put up zero's in rotation, and will increasingly match that with the K/BB/WHIP magic that he had last year.

I'm pretty interested about him.

Really, other than some of our more gifted prospects (Veal, Ceda, Cabrera), the rotation pitching has been very effective thus far. Will be interesting to see how dudes like Berg, Russell, Maestri, Siegfried, Harben etc. hold up as their arms get more ware, as the weather warms up, and as the opposing hitters start to find their strokes.

I'm not that concerned about the Peoria situation. One of the principles is that good prospects are supposed to be able to outperform bad prospects. That guys like Rundle and the guy we got for Barrett can't really hit with Lalli or Rosa, that just means that they have no future. If they did, in due time they'd be able to beat out those guys.

May also reflect on Ryne, like many managers he probably likes to win. If these alleged prospects really aren't any good, it's natural to want to play guys who have a chance to get a hit now and then.

Apparantly, the MiLB webmaster got a phonecall from some guy with an Italian accent inquiring about the health of his kneecaps, and suggesting that Alessandro (a friend of a friend of a friend of the caller) had allowed only three walks, and a correction might be needed.
