First off, I want to congratulate Ryan Dempster on his great performance today. Secondly, I would like to raise the following question to the community; based on today’s performance..Would not Dempster have to be considered amoung the early season favorites for the NL CY Young award :?: ….I understand that this the 3rd game of the season, and Dempster’s 1st start(and don’t want to jump to conclustions) but it is question to be asked..I took Dempster’s #’s today and projected them over 30 starts

30 Wins-0 Losses-150K’s-60BB’s-.83WHIP

Those are very good numbers.

Zambrano is on pace for 0 wins, no way he has a chance.

Ryan Dempster is going to be a big surprise for the Cubs this year. His stuff looked very impressive, and his hard work was evident today. EVERYTHING was moving.

His stuff has never been the issue; Dempster has always had nasty movement on all his pitches. It's always been about control and command... and color me skeptical that Dempster has finally learned to put his pitches where he wants.

I think we all know that Cueto's arm is going to fall off before he can win any awards, right Dusty?

Cueto's arm won't fall off till 09, he'll be fine this season, unfortunately =/

How many pitches did he(Cueto) throw today?

Dempster will be a fine #3 option if he keeps his walks down. Hell, he could be better than a #3 option if he keeps his walks down. Everybody has always known that. But, it's gonna take more than one start before I'm convinced that he has learned to keep his walks down.

I know you were being facetious, but his throwing motion combined with Dusty is a recipe for injury. I see him being hurt in the near future.

We're really going all out on the heavy sarcasm lately.

It's definitely funny when people don't get it. Especially lurkers who come out of nowhere.

Shockingly enough, Dusty pulled him after 7 and only 92 pitches.

That's...more carefully than my old highschool coach used to treat me. That won't last long. I'm probably a bad person for hoping that cincy is in the wildcard race late in the season so that Dusty overuses those young guys.

I don't know if you guys noticed the walk in the 1st inning to Rickie Weeks, but that 3-2 pitch could have gone either way. It was a cut fastball or a slider that backdoored him, and was maybe a couple inches off the black - at most. If he had his strike zone established and threw that pitch later in the game, it would be strike 3 and the Brewers' first inning would have been a lot different.

Your so stupid for saying that Dumpster could win teh CY Yount award after just one start. He hasnt even ben a starter in years and you want to give him a award?? Do you reely think Zambrano will pitch the rest of teh seasen like he did in his 1st start? You people are morans!

P.S. Sorry, someone had to do it.

This thread reminds me of many I have seen over the years on Cards Talk:

"Eckstein for MVP!"

And so on. Except they aren't kidding.
