Today, something magical happened. Kerry Wood got his first honest-to-goodness save. And to those of us who were watching with our eyes, and not doing silly math stuff with our pocket calculators, clearly witnessed the flipping of a great cosmic switch - Wood, with this three-run save, went from sham closer to experienced veteran game-ender. You see, he now has a save. I think we can safely conclude that he will become the greatest closer in baseball history. Those who disagree have obviously never seen a baseball game.

I mean, sure, he allowed a baserunner, but it was Craig Counsell. And he's batting 1.000. So no big deal.

He also gave up a BB to Kendall but the ump apparently had plans so he called it a strike out~. He looked really good on the first two batters though, nice movement, perfect location on the pitches.

1 save makes him a rookie closer. He needs a 45 save season before he's a real closer.

lol

ya, this jersey cubs fan guy isn't real bright. You should see the thread he started bashing Aramis today.

It's amazing to me how a player can go through such a change over the course of one game. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't allow another run over the remainder of the season!

Well, he's no Antonio Alfonseca - not yet - but you're missing the point - he now has mystical closer experience that he didn't have before. He's now unstoppable, and his rise to the ranks of 45 save ultra closers like Alfonseca, Jose Mesa, Joe Borowski, and Bob Wickman is all but inevitable.

if kendall had any stones he would have swung at that pitch. he just knows wood's stuff is too nasty for him to hit, so he put the bat on his shoulder and prayed for a walk---he had no intention of swinging, which was smart, it just backfired.

Mark my words....Kerry's closing abilities will single-handedly raise our team OBP by 20-25 points.

Wait...our team is going to get on base more often because Kerry Wood is closing games?

Even if that's true, isn't that a good thing?

MLB will enact the "Kerry Wood" rule, wherein any team that puts Kerry Wood in the game automatically gets 4 free runs. He'll be that good.

yeah i think the ump might have given him a walk if he'd gone up to the plate with any initiative to swing the bat, but since he just stood there and tried to turn every pitch into a ball, the ump just rang him up.

Kerry Wood will be such a great closer, he will go down as a the GREETEST homerun hitter ever to play the game. He's that good, that Bugs Bunny stole his routine.

I still think we should have Ankieled him and converted him to the OF.

We could have gone with all pitchers in the OF at one point in time. Z/Wood/Prior would have been fearsome IMO.

Petition to officially make "Ankiel" a verb. All in favor?

Having a BA of 1.000 is no big deal if the only pitcher's you've seen so far are Cubs pitchers.
