This is too funny:

Juan Pierre could be the odd man out in the Dodgers' crowded outfield.

Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp have been tearing the cover off the ball this spring and Andruw Jones has centerfield locked up. Pierre, in the meantime, is batting .186. Pierre's five-year, $44 million contract might be the only thing that will keep him off the bench this season.

Pierre and GMJr are neck and neck for worst contracts given during the 2007-2007 offseason.

I would give the edge to Pierre, simply because GMJ can provide occasional pop, and a great glove. Whereas Pierre lone attribute is his speed. So, I would incline to say Pierre got the worst contract during the 2007 offseason, heck you can even say ARGUE his contract is the worse in the past 15-20 yrs.

edit: Is that better guys?

Mike Hampton and Carl Pavano say hi.

those contracts were a disaster because of injuries, though the pavano contract was especially indefensible given his injury and performance history. that being said, i think pierre's really is worse. he has consistently been a -15 glove due to his noodle arm, and his only value is in his batting average, which hasn't been particularly good the last couple of years, and isn't likely to get any better because he's on the wrong side of 30. he doesn't steal bases efficiently enough to make that a positive aspect of his game. his performance last year was basically not far off what his PECOTA projection was, and he was not much better than a replacement-level player. PECOTA projects his value over the next 4 years to be at about $8M - TOTAL - which is less than he's being paid PER YEAR. there is absolutely nothing about that contract that is completely awful.

Actually, lets go ahead and get Pierre. Pierre for Marquis. Dodgers pay 100% of Pierre's deal. We pay 50% of Marquis'. Throw in a throwaway prospect and call it a day.

Pierre would actually play a position on this team that his skills are above average for. 25th man/5th Outfielder.

i have been wondering for a while what it would take to pry matt kemp away from the dodgers. for a "normal" team you'd have to give up a LOT for a prospect like kemp, but colletti's veteran fetish is very well known, and with such a crowded outfield, the dodgers may view kemp as being expendable if they received something of value in return.

We can give them Marquis... 8-[

Batting average? Pffft. What's his Grit Factor?

He's not white enough so he takes a major hit there.

Though he is small and he sucks terribly at baseball. Also, he has speed on his side. All major contributors to GRIT.

Pierre's contract is the worst because the Dodgers got exactly the player they paid for. To my way of thinking the absolute worst contract is the one that gives you a guy who doesn't underachieve and doesn't get hurt, yet the contract still ends up being an embarrassment. You pay a big pile of money for a turd, you end up with a turd, then you act appalled that you have a turd.

Before the Cory Patterson signing I thought for sure we were going to see a Johnny Cueto for Juan Pierre trade :D

haha, ned, you suck. so they're actually entertaining the notion of putting juan pierre in left field, where his production is absolutely unacceptable?

His production is unacceptable at any position.

Pierre fastball would be called the noodle. "Watch it Johnny, he might throw the noodle!"

It may work at first. Batters would be used to heat and then have to face a 30 mph fastball and was swing way to early.

Then after a few innings they'd catch on and Pierre's ERA would be so high that Shaq couldn't touch it.

I'm thinking the Bugs Bunny effect where the hitter swings 3 times during one pitch and strikes out.
