  1. Do you think Fielder sweats walking back and forth from the dugout?
  2. Dempster looks very, very good right now. (No jinx)
  3. Who would have ever thought we'd have more than one hitter with plate discipline?
  4. When our 3-5 hitters are on, there are few teams in the NL that can beat us.
  5. I have heard White Sox fans mention him in the same category as Ramirez. It's amazing how much of his value is based off of 12 games in October.
  6. His production is unacceptable at any position.
  7. http://journal.dialecticalaestheticism.net/img/George_clinton_funk.jpg
  8. Maybe Dusty will play the young Reds position players more because they are better prospects then what he had with the Cubs? I'm sorry, but with the exception of Murton, who is criminally underused, how many of our young players were highly rated prospects or have ever shown that they would be good players? Cedeno? DuBois? Pagan? Jay Bruce is a better prospect then any we've had during the Baker era.
  9. You realize that the best players having the best seasons only "win" 9 or ten games a year for their club. Braun would have to be the worst defender ever to cost the Brewers five games.
  10. Care to elaborate on that statement? Dontrelle Willis? Micah Owings? Hell, even Zambrano. If they're a good/better hitter than your 8-spot, why not give them a couple more at bats by moving them up in the lineup? Sure. First off, with all of those guys, their sample size is so small that you can't truely say whether or not they would be good hitters, most of the time, a starting pitcher rarely gets 150 at bats. If any of them were great hitters, they would play in the field instead of pitch. Secondly, if you have a team where you have pitchers that are better then the guy who bats in the 8 hole, you need to fire your GM. LaRussa does stuff like this to make it seem like he is a "brilliant" baseball mind, when in reality it's counter productive.
  11. Soto will be the best Italian in Chicago with a baseball bat since Al Capone. They will change the name of a double to a "Soto".
  12. Batting any pitcher not named Babe Ruth any higher then ninth should get the manager horsewhipped. If I were the GM of the Cardinals and LaRussa starting doing that, I'd take his wine away.
  13. Bob Uecker is a God, but like the rest of North Illinois, the Brewers can go to hell.
  14. I saw that I thought it was Truffle posting with his disdain for the older population. I can't believe I am saying this but Wood has seem to finally matured and looks a lot more confident. 98 mph is showing a heck of a lot of talent, along with his other pitches. I give Marmol his due but I see him as one more year and more more pitch away from that position. If he would have been a kid with a background as a pitcher I think he would be ready now. It has also worked out to his advantage as far as injuries to that arm. Good to be in this delema There are loads of effective relievers with only two good pitches, I think Marmol should get the nod, the only disaster that could come of this is if Lou chooses Howry.
  15. I've always thought that Hack Wilson was overated.
  16. I love the idea that if someone uses statistics instead if their "gut" to rate players and gauge their performance that some how it means they can't truly appreciate the game or that their nerds. This is partly to do with the fact that most sportswriters can't understand math that doesn't involve using their fingers.
  17. I wonder if Rick Morrissey knows that Heart and Guts don't play baseball and that, unfortunately for the White Sox, Paul Konerko and Jermaine Dye still do. Or maybe he thinks that instead of playing baseball games to decide who wins the World Series, we should have Tug of War contests, testing the Will, Heart, and Determination of the Souls of the players.
  18. If the Wrigley family can't pony up a few million dollars to keep their name on the place, after subjecting millions of Cubs fans to 50 years of misery due to their racism and incompetence, then screw them, I'll stop chewing gum and start smoking.
  19. Is there any truth to the rumor that Prince Fielder was offered slightly more money, say $800,000, but turned it down because the deal did not include a pro-rated supply of cheeseburgers based on last years performance?
  20. There probably will be. One day there will probably be an good measurement of a players defensive ability, including both his range, fielding ability, position, and arm strength. UZR is okay, but it could be better. If someone does come up with better offensive metrics, what's wrong with that? I for one would like to have a manager that doesn't place a man with a career OBP of .327 as the leadoff man.
  21. During the game on Saturday against the D-Backs, Brenly was talking to Piniella about Pie and about how he needed to "hit the ball on the ground" more. I know that Pie's speed will enable to get many more infield hits then the average player, but I cannot fathom why a manager would instruct anyone to "hit the ball on the ground" on a regular basis.
