Where happens with Lieber and Dempster?

I know, and that is where the hard part happens, I wish I knew something to do with them. Obviously the easy thing to do would be put Marshall in AAA, and start Lieber. But I am trying to do the best for the team and imo Marshall is the guy that is best for the team. I wish we could just cut ties with Demp, and who the hell knows why we ever signed Lieber in the first place?????

You do realize that Cedeno has zero options. With your proposed line up, you've essentially cut Cedeno to put a minor league signee in the utility infielder role.

Cedeno either has to make the opening day roster or be involved in a trade. Cedeno has more value than either Cintron or Fontenot, and quite possibly more value than Theriot.

I'd put Hart in AAA and stretch him back out as a starter. Dempster or Marquis could slot into the long relief role. I'd give the upper hand to Lieber to grab that last rotation spot. Dempster seems like a good candidate for long relief, since it would allow him to slowly develop back into a starter.

Personally, I think Marquis will be traded. Cedeno will probably be traded and Murton could possibly be traded.

Dempster is going to be on the team in some role, I would say he and Lieber probably get the last two spots, Marshall goes to long relief, Hart in AAA Cedeno on for Cintron, and I don't know what to do with Marquis.

If this was supposed to be my ideal team, I would have Marquis and Marshall as the last two starters, Dempster back in the bullpen, Cedeno on for Cintron, Hart in AAA, and Lieber released or AAA if hes OK with that

My changes are in bold. I think Marquis is traded, Hart to AAA, Lahey has to stay up or he gets returned to ???, Cedeno is up because Cintron is on a minor league deal.

i'd definitely prefer cedeno to cintron. with cedeno you have a guy who at least has a shot at becoming an average big league shortstop. cintron, you know he's going to be terrible offensively.

You have no backup CFer.

If you were looking at mine, I was using Cedeno as the backup CF. Maybe not ideal, but it would work for the time being and also keep Felix out there just about every day.

Fuku can back up CF when need be. I am looking for Pie to play about 150 games though. Obviously as the season goes on the roster will change.

What's the point of Tim Lahey?

Rule 5 draftee who has to stay on the 25 man or be offered back to whoever we got him from.

Oh I understand that. I just don't get how the Cubs could truly consider giving him a bullpen spot. 26 years old, almost no major league experience, pretty poor stats in the minors. There's plenty of pitchers in camp with more talent than that.

If I recall, he's only been pitching for 3-4 years and probably has a little more potential left than the typical 26 yr old.

Lieber pitches like he did tyhe other day it will be a lock. With the statements from Marquis, though Lou seems to have brushed it off, I think Jim might be quietly shopping this potential clubhouse mess.

The nice part about this pitching staff is that we have tons of trade bait.

As the saying goes you can never have enough arms, but once Hendry hit his peak with the Pittsburgh trade I don't have much faith in his ability to deal mediocre talent. Maybe we can get Trachsel back.
