The Brewers renewed Prince Fielder's contract at a lower amount than he deemed fair. He's apparently not happy about it.

Link.

When the sides couldn't come to agreement on a deal, the club renewed Fielder at about $650,000. Last year, he made $415,000 when he became the youngest player (23) to hit 50 homers in a season.

"I'm not happy about it at all," Fielder said after the Brewers' workout this morning. "The fact that they've renewed me two years in a row now.

"There are a lot of guys with the same amount of time I have who have done a lot less than me and are getting paid a lot more. But my time is going to come and it's coming quick, too."

Prince needs a refresher course as to how this works. You get to be an indentured servant, then you make a little more, and then you can command more than your weight(that's right, a fat joke) in free agency. Shut up Prince, you're probably just irritable from meat withdrawal(two fat jokes in one post, ahaha).

And Jim Hendry wasn't mentioned in correlation with either of them! Good job!

I would expect Milwaukee to do a bit better for Prince though. I can see why he'd be angry, but on the other hand if he keeps performing he'll make plenty of money. That probably won't come from Milwaukee either!

Im sure George Steinbrenner will make him very happy in a few years time.

If George isn't dead by then

I think both his sons have proven to be worthy of the Steinbrenner name.

There is no way the yankees wait until Fielder goes free agent to sign a big name 1B. I'm guessing Teix or Howard ends up there.

Bit confused by what Fielder is angry about, it is an automated system and Boras is his agent so I'm sure he shot down any talk of a deal buying out years.

Players are just being babies. Cole Hamels is doing the same thing in Philly.

But if I'm the Brewers, I'm not paying a lot more than I have to for a player who will be gone as soon as he hits free agency. He'll get enough when he's arbitration eligible anyway.

I think Prince wanted a bigger raise, something like what Howard got last year.

I don't think either lands in NY. I believe both Tex an Howard will reupped with their current teams, regardless of the agent. Now I could see Pena ending up in NY in two yrs, tho.

Yeah but it is an automated system and the Brewers are competitive with league average. Howard got a little extra from being rookie of the year and from winning an MVP. I mean if the team actually breaks its own system for him then they are just going to piss off every other young player on the team who they don't break the system for.

I fully understand the Brewers system, but apparently Prince saw what Howard got under similar circumstances and wanted a little of that for himself. He felt he was deserving of being paid above what the "system" said. The Brewers had every right to do what they did, but that doesn't mean that it could cost them in the long run. Sometimes giving a player more than what is normal might help foster goodwill when the player hits the open market. Sometimes it doesn't. But I'm guessing when Fielder's arby years are up, he's going to the highest bidder and there won't be a hometown discount for the Brewers. With Boras as his agent, that might have ended up being the case anyhow. Now I'm certain it will be.

nothing changes here. He would have been gone at the first opportunity anyway. The only thing that would change that is if the Brewers manage to get a WS win and a free spending owner by then. Neither will happen.

Yeah but Prince is fat, sucks defensively, and would make a great DH.

Is there any truth to the rumor that Prince Fielder was offered slightly more money, say $800,000, but turned it down because the deal did not include a pro-rated supply of cheeseburgers based on last years performance?

Probably not, because he's a vegitarian (and no I'm not kidding).
