Don Banks of CNNSI.com posted a mock draft today. Here's his Bears pick:

14 QB Brian Brohm Louisville Sr. 6-3 225

Opinion varies greatly on whether the Bears will go with a quarterback in the first round, and Brohm doesn't currently carry a first-round grade on every draft board. But the Bears can't go through another status quo year at quarterback, and the free-agent pickings are pretty slim. Unless the Bears have a strong conviction about a passer in the second round, we're giving them Brohm over an offensive tackle like Otah or a defensive tackle like North Carolina's Kentwan Balmer.

No thanks.

meh..I dont see how Brohm would solve our issues @ QB

I dont thinks its talent we have issues with @ QB. its using them, and developing them.

I still think Rex can be pretty good as long as he has protection and a run game so he can have time to throw and use the play action. He's a pocket passer with not much of a pocket (even in 2006, truth be told, the protection wasn't all that great).

But I'm a pretty big Grossman homer.

Whether you like Grossman/Orton or not, none of the draftees this year will help the team in 2008 and the Bears are clearly in win-now mode. I'd rather get a WR, OT or a playmaker on defense in the first round.

Trevelle Wharton just re-signed with the Panthers. In other news of interest for Bears fans about the Panthers....Chris Harris signed a 4-year deal also.

I probably dont miss him as much as other Bear fans, but good for him.

I would agree with you

+1

....but most of Chicago has decided he sucks, and will no doubt act like buffoons booing him until he's gone.

While QB isn't as important upgrade as OL, WR, HB, or S, I think it is a position that will likely have to be upgraded in the future if it is still Grossman/Orton.

Grossman is an inconsistent while over the course of the year has the ceiling of an avg. QB.

They're also going to franchise Jordan Gross. That's one less team ahead of the Bears who could take a tackle.

Chris Harris.

Man, what an incomprehensible, completely unnecessary move by Angelo/Lovie.

That's what happens when you acquire Archuleta and Ricky Manning, unfort. they let go of the wrong guy.

I dont really miss Harris all that much, but I agree letting Archuletta or RMJ go would have been better.

I would cut both of them, definitely Archuleta.

He's so much better than Arch at this point, it isn't even funny.

At the time that the Bears cut Harris, they were still under the belief that Archuleta could play and Brown could stay healthy. I don't know why they believed either, but that's another issue. RMJ had a decent 06 season, and still was thought to be valuable. He's now the 5th best CB on the roster. I didn't have a problem with Chris Harris being cut, at the time. Not the greatest move in retrospect.

nitpicking here, the bears traded chris harris to the panthers, at least they got a pick for him.

moose got cut today and alex brown got extended through 2011, i'm guessing this mark anderson as starter era is put on hold for awhile.
