He's to be on this Friday (Feb 1st?) from around 5:30 --6:30pm CST (I think). I'm sorry guys but I'm really pressed for time--I've got to be leaving for a meeting soon. Unfortunately, not everybody has Direct TV and can get Comcast Sports Net Chicago...but you can participare nonetheless, Comcast Sports Net is encouraging viewers to go to their website and send an email to Hendry. Again, I'm sorry I don't have to time to get you that link-- but if someone could do that for me, that would be great. I hope all NSBB members will email a question into Hendry and ask him some tough questions like: Why no Santana, and what's the hold up in the Roberts/Bedard trade?, etc., etc. Okay, talk to you later. I'll check this forum later tonight, when I get back from my meeting. Thanks.

That's not a tough question at all. That's not even a realistic question. That's a waste of time fluff question.

Any 'good' question will promptly be transformed, by way of JH's response, into a waste of time fluff question. I have zero hopes for anything good/useful/informative coming from this session.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that to even agree to be on the show Jim gets to screen the questions. The website says Lou will be on as well.

Jim, what position on the team do you think is the weakest, and how do you intend to address that?

Well Bane, obviously even the best teams have weaknesses. I think right now we've built ourselves a pretty solid ball club, but obviously if we find a part of our team that is under performing, we'll have an opportunity to jump in and improve the team at that point. But right now, I am pretty satisfied with the players that we have going into camp.

Obviously, we think we have a team that is strong enough to compete in the division, but I'll look to make upgrades if the opportunity presents itself. Fukudome is a real nice addition. He's a guy who hits, runs, and fields real well. We're happy with Soriano. He's been everything we hoped in his first season. Lee and Rameriz are strong. We really like what Theriot did last year and Pie and Soto should do well. We just brought in Lieber. He'll be a strong presence on the staff. Woody is a year further from surgery. Obviously, we like what we have.

It's pretty obvious we don't even need to tune in! Haha very nicely done UMFan, that is pretty par for the course for a JH answer. =D>

Only two things of significance so far:

--Hendry said the Cubs made a call to the Twins early in the process but were told immediately that Santana wanted to go East coast and play on a team that trained in Florida.

-- While talking about getting another second baseman (you know who), Hendry said that if we did get him that we wouldn't be trading DeRosa.

Jim and now Lou will be coming up next.

](*,) "Stats dont say everything and some of the best hitters in baseball dont have a good OBP, you have to look at other things that stats dont show, like who drives in runs in the 7th 8th and 9th inning. That guy comes up and hits a sac fly it doesnt show in OBP". ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

Gotta love his answer to the OBP question.

"blah blah blah on base percentage doesn't say whether a guy can come up in the 7th, 8th, or 9th inning and drive you in a run to win the game..."

In fairness, that came right after he said they need a balance of guys that can "get you a lot of runs and drive in a lot of runs".

That line was pretty much BS, but for the most part, he still seemed to acknowledge OBP as being important.

Lou:

Only spot up for competition in ST outside of the rotation is CF. So, in other words, that's bad news for the Ronny Cedeno fanboys.

Jim: Doesn't see many scenario's where both Pie and Fuld make the team. They will battle it out and most likely the other will go back to Iowa.

Jim said ideally he would like to make 2 or 3 trades, or at least 1 or 2. But then gave the blah blah quotes about how it takes other teams willing.

Those were the interesting points.

Ha you liked that as well huh

The mere mention of situational stats like that irks the hell out of me, and he rarely misses an opportunity to bring them up.

Exactly. Its like he says the whole thing about balance trhoughout the lineup just to appease people, while he fully believes those situational stats are something you can predict.
