The first game he is available is April 29th against the Cubs.

My math has this at about a +4 win move for the Brewers. +2 wins from hiding Braun's glove in LF instead of at 3B, +1 win from moving from Hall to Cameron defensively in CF and then +1 win for upgrading from Gross/Kapler/Gwynn/Dillon to Cameron offensively.

Answering my own question:

From BTF via Buster Olney:

Cameron will presumably play center field for the Brewers, who have reportedly spoken with Bill Hall, the team's center fielder last year, about moving to third base. If that happens, Ryan Braun would shift from third base to left field.

Is it assumed Braun will be an acceptable LF? Has he played much out there?

Is there definitive word that it'll be Hall to 3B and Braun to LF rather than Hall to LF?

Please?

I'm not saying, I'm just saying.

nice move by the Brewers improves there defense a ton and gives them some options on the bench now that he and Braun will be patrolling the outfield.

Who will play CF until Cameron is off suspension though?

Hart is a decent CF so probably him with Dillon/Gross platoon in RF.

Braun is a decent athlete and has a strong arm. He's just a mess at third due to mechanics and accuracy, I believe. They'd probably be better off with him in RF than LaPorta if it comes to that, though I think one of them will be traded before 2009.

Anyway, just speculation on my part, but assuming he can track a fly ball, he'll probably be at least average out there just because he isn't Burrell, Duncan or Dunn. NL LF are just awful fielders in general.

Funny that none of the NL Central teams seem to realise that the one thing that keeps each of them from dominance is a well rounded pitching staff.

Easier said than done. Everyone knows pitching wins . Having the payroll to get the pitching you need is another story. Since the Brewers don't have a ton of money to dump into there staff they choose a move that vastly upgrades there defense and adds a nice bat as well with only a 1 year deal.

Somebody keep Rich Hill away from Cameron.

I take it that if LaPorta is ready to go next year, they decline the option on Cameron and go with a Braun, Hart, LaPorta outfield?

That's kinda scary

That'd be a defensive nightmare for the Brewers. LaPorta does not have the arm or range to play RF, from everything I've read about him. Braun might be able to handle RF, but he'd first have to cleanly transition into the OF. We'll see how that goes.
