Check out Hamilton's line this spring for the Rangers:

607/633/1107 ; 4 2b, 2 3b, 2 hr.

So far this looks like a win for the Rangers.

His stats don't really matter. It was a high upside, big risk for injury guy for a really solid arm.

Hamilton healthy is really good, the question is, is he going to stay healthy. ST stats have very little to do with that.

Hopefully Hamilton becomes the DH in Texas and stays healthy. I have a feeling he's gonna help my fantasy team. Alot.

I doubt he'll be DHing. At least not until Milton Bradley gets hurt running the bases during his home run trot. Bradley is penciled in to DH until his leg is better.

I don't see what you could be expecting from him. Even .300 30/90/10 is probably his upside this season, and that's a usual year for Jason Bay, who's lasting until the 10th round usually. The Reds will regret this trade though, I'm pretty confident of that.

I read somewhere where some doofy sportswriter claimed that Josh Hamilton has the potential to be the best player in the mlb. I laughed so hard I forgot to post the link and now I can't find it.

Was it an 8 year old article?

Michael Young said ARod was the only player he's ever played with more talented than Hamilton.

I'm rooting for the guy - especially now that he's out of the NL Central but there have been a LOT of really talented guys to come through the league. Now the question is can he sustain this success and what does he do with that talent?

It can't be a "win" just based on spring training numbers. If he continues that into the regular season then it could very well be. Volquez has done pretty well too. I caught a little bit of him against the Yankees and he carved up A-Rod in 3 pitches.

Hamilton will always be battling injuries. His body has been put through hell. I am interested in what he can do though.

It was no more than two weeks old.

He does have all the natural talent in the world, I don't think the quote is reall all that crazy. The chances he reaches it? Slim to none. But the tools are there.

exactly why is that so funny?

Hamilton's a former #1 pick, and pretty undisputed that he was the best player in the draft, IIRC. Anybody with that type of talent has the potential to be the best player in the league.

Did you stop to look at how the guy the Reds got back is doing?

Volquez has 19 Ks and 3 BBs to go with his 3.46 ERA (bad stat?) in 13 innings this spring. He is just filthy, and is going to be the Reds 3rd or 4th starter behind Harang, Arroyo, and maybe Cueto.

I'll take pitching over hitting 100 times out of 100.

So far it looks like a win for both teams.

Bill James projected him to slug .600 this season.

He might be able to do that if he fulfills his potential while hitting in Arlington

He can slug .600 if he only has to hit against righties. He can not hit lefties.

reds seem to have a lot of pitchers who are "filthy"

You better hope he continues to display that control. In his try-out with the Rangers last season, he walked 15 in 34 innings. For 2007, he walked 75 in 178.2 IP. For 2006, he walked 17 in only 33.1 IP for the Rangers. Control has been his undoing. Granted he's young and still has a lot of time to learn to harnass his stuff. But, I would worry that the control he's shown in 13 IP could be quite fleeting once he's back on the mound come April.

I would take the high slugging center fielder 100 out of 100 times.

Yeah and the Reds have one of those on the verge of majors.
