IF we can get Bedard without giving up Pie or Hill i'm all for it. Think they would bite on Murton, Marshall, Gallagher, and a 4th?

No.

If I were the O's, hell no!

I'd give up Pie to help get Bedard, but not Hill or Marmol. Baltimore seems to put value in sheer quantity of prospects (re: the Trachsel and Tejada trades), so maybe we can match up with them after all?

If Murton, Marshall and Cedeno was enough for Roberts, then the Cubs add Pie, Gallagher and someone like Eric Patterson to bring in Bedard? I think the latter three together are perfectly competitive with what the Reds are supposedly offering for him.

The idea of a front four of Zambrano, Bedard, Lilly and Hill makes me drool.

For Bedard, they can have Pie. No Hill, though.

Pie, then the Cubs get to protect two minor leaguers, then the Orioles can choose any two remaining minor leaguers, then the Cubs get to protect one more, then the Orioles can choose one final minor leaguer.

If we trade Pie who plays CF? Fuld? Sign Cameron or Lofton? Fukodome in CF and Murton in RF? A rotation of Zambrano, Bedard, Lilly, Hill would be pretty dominant. I'd love to do it, however, we must first get a Bedard to sign an extension.

I don't think getting him to sign an extension is necessary. Let him pitch for you for two seasons, then take the draft choices. Maybe sign him, depending upon how your pitching looks a year from now and how he's held up, health-wise.

I'd be fine with giving up Pie for Bedard but its only a good deal for me if they keep Hill.

Z, Hill, Bedard, Lilly. Damn...

If they could somehow get this done without Hill, I'm all about it...but I just don't see that happening.

And why wouldn't some people trade Marmol? No reliever should ever be untouchable.

Unless the O's are really thrilled with what they received from the Astros for Tejada. I doubt they are that impressed with them to omit having Hill in a trade though, we can wish.

Just a gut call, but I really don't want 3 lefties in the rotation. I'd rather have the Cubs pursue Blanton - he'd be under team control for 3 seasons.

I know he has very good control Hoops, is he a flyball or groundball type pitcher? Why would the A's want to trade him after they already traded Haren and have him under control for 3 years?

How does what hand a guy throws with factor into a decision? It makes little sense to me.

but three righties is OK?

His groundball to flyball ratio was 1.58 last year - 1.28 in his career.

I think the A's are busting their team up, gathering prospects with high ceilings and playing for 2010. Blanton is first year arbitration eligible - his salary could go from $400K to $3M. But he will be under control for 3 seasons. Beane could probably get a good package of prospects for him. I'd trade 3 prospects for him.

Is there that much of a difference between Silva and Blanton? I'm curious if it would be better to just sign Silva instead of losing the prospects (depending on the prospects)? You know the budget better than I do.

Like I said, just a gut call. I'd rather have 3 righties and 2 lefties pitching to the likes of Tejada, CLee, Pujols, Braun, Hart, Bay, etc...

I wouldn't bat an eye to sending Marmol. And I think we underestimate how much value he might have to Baltimore. A month or so ago there was a fairly extensive interview with MacPhail and he said he was pretty happy with their young starters but was very interested in improving their bullpen. Pie and Marmol could be the center of an enticing package. Edited by nilodnayr

They can have Felix Patterson as far as I'm concerned. He needs to be traded before teams start figuring out that he's lost against major league pitching. He's supposed to be this burner on the paths and he steals bases at like a 55% clip. I don't think he's got much of a baseball IQ and I'm not keeping him around solely for defensive purposes.

Pie, Gallagher, Cedeno, Ceda, Veal, and Roquet for Bedard and Roberts.

A net gain of only one 40-man roster guy for them.

If it meant not sending Rich Hill, Marmol can pack his bags today.
