Instead of spending the money on Taguchi, the Cubs should hire a gaggle of young female Japanese "personal assistants" to follow Fukudome around. Also, they should wear Japanese school uniforms and be seen regularly around Wrigley Field. That is all.

Although he's 38, I wonder if the Cubs might sign him to a 1 year-deal to platoon with Pie, but more importantly, to give Fukudome a teammate to talk to everyday in his native tongue as he's getting used to his first year in the States.

Can't we just make his interpretor a token coach instead?

Or Soriano.

If the Cubs are going to have Pie play in CF, then just LET HIM PLAY.

Every Cub prospect does not need to be babied with platoon partners.

I agree with this 100%.

If there was ever going to be a Cubs prospect that needed to be platooned though, it's Pie. I wouldn't keep it a strict platoon to allow Pie to get some at-bats against left-handers, but to throw him against all left-handers is almost guaranteeing that his overall numbers are going to scream failure.

The Phillies and So Taguchi have reportedly agreed to terms on a one-year deal with an option for 2009.

Chris Snelling would be more useful off the bench as a pinch-hitter, but the Phillies wanted some extra protection in center field and Taguchi might still be a better option there than Jayson Werth. Unless someone gets hurt, there probably won't be any room for Snelling now.

What about Lofton? He's REALLY up there in age...but if we HAVE to have a platoon for Pie, He'd be good. But prolly too expensive for a bench player. Might Get more playing time than Pie....

Just an idea.....

i thought so taguchi was like 16 years old

he was back in the 40's

I bet Taguchi and Pujols switched berth certificates.

Maybe, the Cubs aren't looking to sign So for a platoon with Pie; maybe, he's going to play the same role for Fuk that Jack played for Rodman on the Bulls that one season...

I would have no problem with putting him on the 60 day DL on April 2nd.
