When asked about the Tigers' blockbuster trade, Kenny Williams was quoted as saying: "It puts them in a better position to contend with us." :^o :^o :^o

I think Williams is really starting to feel the heat for being an idiot and not being able to find players to get the Sox out of the cellar. I've written before about his state of denial and now the Sox are bad and have little hope of improving in the next 4-5 years. If he was realistic about the White Sox plight, imagine what he could get (or have gotten) for Buerhle, Konerko, Dye, Crede, McDougal, Uribe, etc. He could have easily traded those guys for 4-5 outstanding prospects plus 2-3 good prospects and had the Sox ready to compete by 2009-2010. Instead he continues to believe the White Sox will be contenders this year.

Good, I am glad the people who thought Kenny was a genius for assembling the 2005 championship team are coming to their senses. While no one can take their title away, lets be honest, their team was a pretty big fluke that year. That said, Kenny isn't the worst GM in baseball. He had many many nice moves, as recently as last week with Quinten. But overall he giving his team a Cubs philosophy (there is no such thing as rebuilding), which is only hurting his team in the short and long term.

Better than what? Better than last year when they were only able to finish a mere 16 games ahead of your squad?

Kenny Williams is a moran.

Think I'll head over to White Sox Interactive and read their moaning and groaning -- boys and girls, can you say schaudenfriede? Of course, probably more than half the posts will be whining about the Cubs, anyway.

Just think about the moaning and groaning if the Cubs sign Fukudome.

Well since the Sox seemed to have missed out on Rowand, I think it is safe to say that the Sox now have the worst outfield in the majors. He waited too long to trade his players and now almost all of their values are going down.

He's a moron. He should have sold his veteran players for prospects last year but he was so dead set on competing this year that he made empty promises to them to get them to sign longterm deals with the White Sox. He completely missed out on FA's. He looked foolish when he signed Uribe to a long-term deal only to trade Garland who is one of their most consistent pitchers for a shortstop who is already getting old. When he won the world series I thought the guy had a clue, and was actually arguing with some people on here that it wasn't luck. I was wrong. He is a terrible GM who got lucky with the WS ring.

Today Kenny is saying that they've filled their holes, albeit not with "stars" or "who the fans wanted". =D> =D> =D>

day by day... kenny just gets more interesting in what he says.

This thread is amusing. Last season was the first time in 7 seasons that the White Sox finished under .500. Only six other teams can claim this kind of winning (Atlanta, Boston, LA Dodgers, NY Yankees, Oakland and St. Louis).

Anyone think maybe last year was the team that was the fluke? Of course not.

How bout instead of citing their record from 7 years ago, you tell me why they're going to be good this year. When Jerry Owens wins the CF job in spring training, it's gonna be great. At least they'll have their prototypical leadoff hitter.

And does anyone think this year's team has any chance of reaching the playoffs?

I'm sorry, but when Kenny talks about the Tigers "competing with us", that is freaking funny. Or the Indians for that matter. 2005 might as well be 1905.

Sure, KW has put his foot in his mouth on more than one occasion but who in sports hasn't? All I'm saying is you cannot dispute his successfull track record as Sox GM.

Big difference though between 2005 and 1905. We were all here to witness 2005.

BTW, I do think they have a shot of returning to the playoffs this season.

For which professional sport? 'cause it won't be baseball.

Sounds like someone is forgetting 2005. Of course you are going to say 2005 was a tremendous fluke and you can't base your opinion on that, and you may be right. But like I've been saying all offseason, I think they have a shot. Not a very good one, but they have one. Their staff can either be really bad or really good. Floyd and Danks have to play to their potential, but if they do, their offense is good enough to lead it to a wild card.

Once again you're talking about Gavin Floyd as something more than a negative.

They're going to have a terrible defense with a mediocre offense, and a 2 man starting rotation. They are a bad team.

Pointing out the truth makes him Jay Mariotti?

2007 Standings:

Sox 97-65

Twins 93-69

Tigers 87-75

Indians 80-82

Royals 63-99

I don't know what this is, but if the Sox win 80 games this year, I'll poop myself.

I assume it's moochpuppy's predictions for the AL Central last year. SSR posted it because moochpuppy is very optimistic about the White Sox this year just like he apparently was last year and the Sox performed 25 games worse than moochpuppy predicted.
