There are no Josh Hamilton/Joakim Soria's in this draft that we know of are there?

I guess no one would predict Soria would have the impact that he did last year when he was picked.

Phillies select Lincoln Holdzkom (former Cub)

Wasn't he selected in last year's rule 5?

Yes.

And thats all folks...Rule 5 draft over.

Does anyone have any information on Barton. I know that he is an OF and was a BA top 100 prospect at one time. But what are the scouting reports on him? Who does he compare to? Does he have a good shot at staying on the roster all year?

He's a good talent, but old. He stayed in school at Miami (of all places) to get his aeronautical engineering degree.

He's actually a good candidate to stay on the DL for most of the year as he blew out his knee.

Miami is a pretty good academic school... the most visible part of the university, the football team, really brings its reputation down. But it's definitely ahead of UF and FSU academically.

My high school comes in just ahead of FSU academically.

I thought we'd pick someone better with that pick. Something doesn't seem right. I sense a trade.

Unless we are moving one of Howry, Marmol or Wuertz, I dont understand why we would want Lahey. He'd be nothing more then a throw-in in a trade and that team would still have to keep him on the big league roster. They could have just picked him themselves if they wanted him that bad. Then asked the Cubs for some other prospect. I think I am going to stop trying to understand anything we do at this point.

Good for Randy Wells, didn't look like he had much of a chance with the Cubs. The Cubs also lost Adalberto Mendez in the AA part of the Rule 5 draft.

Relievers are the easiest type of player to stash on a big league roster.

ETA: Shane Lindsay wasn't selected by anyone.

not if the cubs still want to do the call up/send down game to make the bullpen bigger than it really is again.

Call me braindead, but what exactly is your definition of ETA?

I've always associated ETA with Estimated Time of Arrival, but that doesn't make sense where you have it.

Well, the coobs went out of their way to make this deal/pick up this guy. Either they truly do see something in him or he is just a piece we are moving to someone else as part of a future trade.

I believe ETA in this case means, "Edited to Add". He's just pointing out why he edited his post.

I've never heard anything about Lahey and usually I can pick up stuff on most of the minor league players living in MN and wife being a Twins fan.

I'll try and talk with the Twins beatwriter tonight if he's at the Bears bar in St. Paul to watch the game. Normally he is. So maybe he'll have some insight.
