Milwaukee

The Brewers are having an active day. According to a club official, the club has worked out a contract for free-agent righthander David Riske, who will get a chance to be Milwaukee's closer. In addition, the Brewers are close to obtaining third baseman Joe Crede from the Chicago White Sox. With the addition of Crede, the Brewers could move NL rookie of the year Ryan Braun to left field. Braun had severe defensive problems at third.

I would love for them to have to give up anything significant for Joe Crede.

Saying that Braun had severe defensive problems at third is like saying that I have severe flying problems when I flap my arms.

If I weren't sick this week, I would have been flying into Midway this morning, too. Would have been the third year in a row I would have flown into a snowstorm at Midway the first week of December.

Sounds like it could be a real circus show watching Braun play the OF. How much time has he even spent in the outfield?

I'm pretty sure he got lost in LF last year a couple times trying to find his position at 3B.

After a ball ricocheted off his head.

If by dynasty you mean making the playoffs quite a bit in a terrible division and possibly lucking into a World Series, but getting absolutely destroyed by any AL team that makes it, then yes we could be a dynasty.

I'll take it, for now, at least.

Actually, it wouldn't be a bad move for the Brewers (depending on how much they give up) gives them some pop and much needed infield defense.

Hey...St.Louis won the WS two years ago with a downright bad team...who says we can't.

The Cubs are my density.

We're not nearly that lucky.

Iguchi's agent expecting offer from Brewers

By Tom Haudricourt

Wednesday, Dec 5 2007, 02:31 PM

Nashville - I just spoke with Rocky Hall, the agent for free agent infielder Tadahito Iguchi, and he said his meeting today went well with the Brewers. In fact, Hall expects the Brewers to get back to him before the day is over with a two-year offer.

"They said they'd get back to me with an offer," said Hall, who oddly enough, played in the Brewers' farm system in the late '70s. "They said they were working on a couple of other things and would get back to me."

The interesting part of this is that Iguchi has been a second baseman only in his three years in the majors with the Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Phillies. But he played some third base in Japan, is working out at that position now and has agreed to switch to that position if given a multi-year offer.

The Phillies are trying to keep Iguchi -- also, to play third -- and Hall said another team had an offer on the table as well. That team could be San Diego.

Considering the Cubs haven't even made a World Series in 62 years, even making one would be wonderful.

I seriously think Braun is expendable at this point. Whatever your opinion is about his defense, they seem hell-bent on finding a replacement for him at 3B rather than let him try and settle in and learn the position. If they throw him into the OF, his value will decline and there will not be enough playing time to go around for everyone vying for a spot.

If I were an AL team or an NL team in a rebuilding mode, I'd be poking around the Brewers' camp to see what Braun's availability would be.
