Seems to put the Cubs further from where they want to be.

This entire off-season has been about that, so far.

It makes absolutely no friggen' sense what-so-ever.

I like Teahen slightly more than I like Murton because I think MM has a brutal lack of power for someone his size. Murton's defense is boarderline acceptable - compared to a Teahen who can actually field his position.

That being said, I have a bad feeling that if we acquire Teahen, he is Hendry's answer in the outfield. So in essence, we'd give up Murton and some schlub (hopefully) for Teahen and be set in the outfield. That's a huge downgrade from getting a capable, above-average outfielder and having Murton as the 4th OF.

It seems to me Hendry has it in his head to have DeRosa play all over the place. This means he'll be platooning w/ Teahen in RF if that is where he goes. It does leave second still open though.

I highly doubt that. He wants Fukudome badly. I doubt he'd change his course on that just because he acquired Teahen.

Unless he pulls a rabbit out of his hat and gets Roberts, I don't see him finding someone else to play 2B now that Matsui is off the market. I'd bet DeRosa is the everyday 2B next year.

sign Fukudome.

acquire Teahen

When Pie sucks (which is inevitable) shift Fukudome to CF and Teahen starts in RF.

Win-win situation.

Now if only we could do something about SS. I hate that we have to pencil in Ryan Theriot.

Personally, I think Murton would be better for the Cubs considering the Cubs had problems with LHP.

2007 Cubs:

vs. RHP: .274/.335/.419 = .754 OPS

vs. LHP: .263/.325/.431 = .756 OPS

If they had problems with left-handers then you can just as easily say they had problems with right-handers, as well.

There is still the rumor abour Orlando Hudson being someone we are interested in.

Yea, I'm pretty *meh* about that possibility. I wouldn't mind him, but I don't see a point in giving up anything to get him and I hope Hendry gets saved from himself again there.

I think Hendry is trying to purge the people he wants off the team. He's succeeded in getting rid of Ohman and Jones. I also think that he's trying to get rid of Murton, Demp and Marquis and I don't have a problem with that as long as he acquires or signs people better than what he's purging.

You can probably include Prior on his list of people he's trying to get rid of.

Yup, forgot about him.

A couple of closest comparisons are Bobby Bonilla and Alexis Rios. But, I'd probably compare him a little more closely to Hank Blalock.

Whaaaaat? I guess I never did see stats to back it up, but it seemed obvious that they struggled more against lefties. That's a little bit mind-blowing.

I think it helps to look at how they ranked compared to the rest of the league. They were below average against LHP, and slightly above against RHP. Plus, the OBP difference is significant, on a team wide scale, more important than the SLG difference.

It seemed like our struggles against lefties were more in terms of W-L. Might've just been a result of variance. Never did make sense to me that we'd hit WORSE against lefties.

Check out the career stats:

Teahan averages 14 HRs, 78 RBI, .274, .340, .429, .769

Murton averages 16 HRs, 55 RBI, .296, .365, .455, .820

Perhaps one of you stat geeks out there can look at those numbers and explain how Teahan has "more power", "a higher ceiling", etc. When I look at the numbers it looks like Murton is significantly better in most offensive areas. To me the only advantages Teahan has are his defense and the fact he's left-handed.

But in Hendry's world, that's the only factor that matters...

Wasn't Teahen hurt last year, which might explain his steep dropoff in power between 2006 and 2007?

Was he playing hurt? Because he played in 144 games with 544AB's.

Thank you!!!!! The Cubs also had almost 3000 more ABs vs. RHPs. Getting better against lefties is NOT important.
