It's on MLB radio. Definitely true. Good trade for the Sox.

EDIT: Now that I actually know who Chris Carter is, I take that back.

Good trade for the Sox, especially since they only gave up a retired NFL wide receiver. :P (Yes, I know, different spelling)

Actually, they gave up the creator of The X-Files.

I had the pleasure of watching Chris Carter in Kannapolis a lot this past year and I think he is going to be a very very good player. Obviously this is better for the Sox short term being that carter is a couple years away, but eventually both teams will be very happy with the trade.

Anyone know how good Carter is?

Here is my impression from watching him this last year:

-He has huge power potential

-He has pretty good patience that seems to be getting better (seemed to have better pitch selection as the season went along).

-He has a bad fielding rep, which I dont totally agree with, he is passable.

-Strikes out a good amount

-Hits for pretty decent avg.

I agree that his game still has a ways to go, but he was 20 this past year and showed good growth in his game over the course of the year. In my opinion he is going to be a very good player. I would definitely say he was the best position player in the sox system not at the major league level.

It's official:

Carlos Quentin-OF-White Sox Dec. 3 - 3:04 pm et

White Sox acquired outfielder Carlos Quentin from the Diamondbacks for first baseman Chris Carter.

A great gamble for the White Sox here. Quentin is questionable for Opening Day following October surgery to repair the rotator cuff and labrum in his left (non-throwing) shoulder, but he should be the team's regular left fielder once he proves he's all the way back. Actually, he should play right over Jermaine Dye, but that probably won't happen. Quentin is a very good defender in a corner still capable of turning in some 25-homer seasons in the majors. His acquisition makes it more likely that Josh Fields will be the White Sox's third baseman next year, with Joe Crede getting either traded or non-tendered.

Chris Carter-1B-Diamondbacks Dec. 3 - 3:01 pm et

Diamondbacks acquired first baseman Chris Carter from the White Sox for outfielder Carlos Quentin.

Carter, who turns 21 this month, hit .291/.383/.522 for low Single-A Kannapolis last season. He's a right-handed hitter with 30-homer potential, but he's not much of a defender and he's a long way from the majors. While he does become one of Arizona's top-five prospects, he's not a good enough return for Quentin.

We probably could have gotten him, but, you know, he's not lefty.

I think Hendry might take one look at the BA column and pass on him before he ever got to see which side of the plate he bats on.

This was a great move by K Williams. Quentin had a rough year but is going to have a real nice career if he can stay healthy. I'm just wondering where Jim Hendry was while Quentin, Dukes, Milledge, and Delmon Young were being traded. Seems like he is putting all of his eggs in one basket with Fukudome. Unfortunately, there are a lot of other teams interested in him as well. I hope he knows what he is doing because those are some pretty nice players to miss out on.

i have no idea how i feel about quentin. it's important to remember that he's one of these arizona guys who played in crazy hitting parks/leagues all the way up.
