And in typical Arizona State fashion (with the exception of the USC game), their defense has gotten better as the game has gone on. ASU gets the ball at roughly the Texas 40 following the punt.

After ASU got the punt back, Carpenter proceeded to throw an INT at the Texas 5. Then after stopping Texas on the next drive, Kyle Williams (son of Kenny Williams) fumbled the punt return and Texas picked it up at the ASU 32.

The Devils are doing everything they can to lose this game.

I think Texas has done more to keep ASU in the game. For the most part they have dominated every aspect of the game. Score line could and probably should be a little worse.

Good point on Jones and Briscoe, but Ainge really seems to rely on Lucas and when he's been injured earlier this year, the offense has struggled which worries me.

With McCoy, we've got nice depth to absorb his loss and the D-line has improved greatly the past couple weeks allowing the linebackers to make plays.

I'm not as sold on our LB depth as you are. Karl is not expected to be much of a factor in the game, and it looks like Mayo is moving to WLB, while Ellix Wilson will start and get the bulk of the snaps at MLB. At the Sam, it looks like Dorian Davis and Adam Myers-White will play most of the game.

I realize that Taylor was Ainge's big target for the bulk of the year, but Gerald Jones' emergence, as well as the return of Brad Cottam, seem to bode well for our passing game.

I'm confused. Are you saying Spence would be bad, or that he's not a popular choice? All I've heard about Spence has been positive and everywhere he's been he's produced a good offense.

I'm saying that it would be greeted with an enormous "meh". He has produced everywhere he's been, but he's just not the type of hire that gets a fan base (or recruits) excited. Moot point, however, as I hear from a pretty reliable source that Kippy Brown has essentially already taken the job. Same source says that UT fans will not be happy when they see the list of others who were barely considered for the job.

I've heard that Slade may be on his way out, and wouldn't mind it terribly. Hadn't heard a thing about Chief, are you hearing that he'll retire or head somewhere else? I expected the loss of Trooper to hurt current players and potential recruits, since he was easily our best recruiter.

Slade will be fired, from what I'm hearing. May or may not happen. Chief would leave on his own, though I'd put that possibility at less than 20%.

Trooper has already cost us Lerentee McCray, and likely others. Cutcliffe has cost us Casey Kelly (moot point, as he should be a top 40 pick in the MLB draft) and any shot we had with Terelle Pryor. If Fulmer cannot find a great recruiter in his next hires (hence the reason I put Walton, Garner, and Porter on my wish list), then we'd better get used to these poor classes.

Yeah, it sucks that all this turnover has happened just as we were looking extremely strong for next year. I don't understand the lack of faith in Fulmer though. I like to look at track record with coaches, and Fulmer has brought in Taylor, Cutcliffe, Chavis, Adkins, etc. in his career. That's a strong group of coaches. Probably his only biggest mistake was Randy Sanders, but it's hard to know beforehand that a terrific QB coach won't be able to handle OC duties.

The general sentiment is that Fulmer is stale, and that his practice of hiring from the UT family is hurting the program. He is being equated to Bobby Bowden, and in 2007, that is not a good thing. Cutcliffe is not exactly a hire for which Fulmer can take credit, as that one fell into his lap. (Seriously, who else could he have hired there?) Sanders was not a bad hire- just overmatched as an OC. Slade was not a good hire, Pat Washington was not a good hire, Roper and Luke were both ho-hum... notice the trend? Trooper Taylor was a very good hire (and the rumors are that Trooper is essentialy out because of staff jealousy- Chief and Troop fought often), but beyond him, Fulmer hasn't hired anyone that anyone else in the country is really after. Sure, Duke wanted Cut... but what is that saying?

That really sucks. I don't understand it either, because another strong year (which is likely with the rest of the team probably much better next year) would possibly vault him into the top 2 rounds. Not sure that's where he's headed now.

Again, you can take it with a grain of salt, but someone very close to Jerod seems to think that he is currently slated as a late 2nd to 3rd rounder, and that no matter the results of his senior year, his stock will not rise that much. I don't know why. He's very smart (graduated in 3.5 years), has great football instincts (learned the MLB position on the fly, and did a dang good job there), and is just a winner. Plus, it's not like he's a statue out there. He's no Al Wilson, but he's got Omar Gaither ability, imo.

By the way, do you frequent a message board for UT? If so, I'd be interested to know since I haven't been able to find a good Vols or Titans message board (of course, my comparison is with NSBB and that's probably not fair :D )

Volquest.com is the way to go. Better than NSBB, if you are looking to compare. There are idiot posters there, and there are some really good ones. Arian Foster's mom, Kevin Simon's dad, Chris Walker's mom, a couple of Austin Johnson's family and even Jon Crompton's mom and dad pst there from time to time, as well as Gerald Jones' high school OC and various other coaches from across the country. Plus, with a premiumticket, you have access to Rivals' main football, basketball, and recruiting boards. What sets it apart, though, is the professional writers who cover the Vols for Volquest. Very informed, very in touch with the Athletic Department, and they are not puppets for the university. Well worth the 9.95 a month I pay for it.

Hope that's helpful.

First rule of the Holiday Bowl: ALWAYS take the over

And, those who took the over just won.

see? too bad i don't gamble

I just opened a bodog account :P

I figure if I'm going to sit on my butt and watch games on new years day, most of which I really don't care a lot about, I might as well make it interesting.

Of course when I saw that BC was only favored by 5 over a short handed MSU, I took that bet too (and I'm probably not even going to watch that game)....I think I have a problem.

$20. And you get a free $20 when you open the account and make the deposit (not sure if there is a minimum to get that free 20 bucks, but I deposited 200 and got it). I did it with a credit card. It was incredibly easy. You have to print something out and send it in with some copies of some other stuff to get your money, but you can make bets right away by putting your credit card info in. A friend of mine has used it and he says its a good site thats reputable and pays out quickly. I am (well, I guess was) not an online gambler, but I had even heard about bodog, so I thought that was a pretty good sign.

Most of the year we heard about how good the Pac Ten was and how crappy the B12 was, heck i remember hearing that the Pac 10 was the best or 1A behind the SEC. Well last night the 4th best B12 team throttles the 2/3 best Pac 10 team. Im not going to use this as a total litmus test for those 2 conferences but it was a nice win for the B12.

Really? I thought that stopped when teams like Cal and UCLA fell apart and USC was struggling with Booty hurt.

This billboard was placed up last week in Monroe along the Interstate that most Bama fans will travel on the way to Shreveport for the Independence Bowl.

I'm convinced that ASU was playing with 9 defenders last night. That's the only logical explanation for no one ever being near Texas players in the open field last night.

After being originally optimistic about MSU's chances to beat Boston College. I am now hoping we dont get blown out. The only chance we have is for Hoyer to play way above his head. Overall I have decided to be pleased with the direction MSU is going. I wasnt sure what to expect before the season. Pleased we at least made a Bowl game. Somewhat disappointed we lost a couple of games that we should have won. At least we arent just doing stupid thing after stupid thing to lose. Also when the season could have gone in a Tailspin after losing to Michigan. They really pulled it together and finished strong.

I agree though if I was going to bet on this game I would take BC and give the points. I will be extremely happy if MSU covers, exstatic if they win.

Yeah, MSU is gonna get rolled tonight. But that doesn't mean it was a bad season at all. They have made an amazing turn around and the program is in the right direction. MSU fans should be very proud no matter what happens. That being said, I just put a hundo on BC -5.

I'd be interested in the rationale that Texas is better than Mizzou.

In related news, there's been allegations that Darren McFadden received a Cadillac for his mom from an Arkansas booster. He could be ineligible for the Cotton Bowl if they turn out to be true.
