What an ugly, awful game. We need a clean break from the last 5 years of horrific football.

It looked like Kai was preparing for a low, long FG kick and never made an adjustment to the shorter FG attempt. The line didn't do a great job, but the guy who blocked it barely got off the ground and didn't get any penetration.

At least you got to watch your team last night. I spent my time during that game creating new uniforms that I'd like to see from Northwestern.

damn it UCLA. I had this pick nailed!

dag nabbit

oh well only five points. i knew it'd be a toss up game

irks me that some of you guys got lordly lucky and put 20+ on the game

And now you know how it felt with the Utah-Navy game the other night in which several people put 20+ points on Utah and they squeaked by and won by a field goal.

Yeah but that was the correct move. Utah was leaps and bounds better than Navy. Brigham Young and UCLA are pretty much a tossup.

ah, so the utah-navy game - which was a three point game in which navy could've potentially tied or won the game had they not thrown a pick in the last minute - was a fluke, and utah was leaps and bounds better. but another game that proved to be very close was not a fluke - the outcome was a tossup.

must be nice to never be wrong.

The University of Tennessee lost this week. I know that we don't play until New Year's Day, but with the loss of 4 offensive coaches, plus our top DT and our best OLB to academics, I don't see how we beat Wisconsin.

I disagree Hosak. Taylor and Cutcliffe will both coach in the bowl game and I assume the other two (Matt Luke and Kurt Roper? I haven't heard) will as well.

The real losses are Bolden and McCoy, though I don't think the two of them are the difference in the game. Lucas Taylor being gone hurts more, in my opinion.

By the way, have you heard anything on the coordinator front? Last I heard we were going to interview Rob Spence of Clemson. That was Friday I believe.

I was considering betting the over (67) for this game but I didn't because I wasn't sure if ECU would score enough. Ironic, eh?

The -3 turnover differential killed Boise State. They were in ECU territory the whole second half and really should've scored a lot more than 38 points.

That puts a huge dent in a lot of people's picks. I had 31 on Boise...ugh.

30 points on Boise for me. I also had 29 points on Memphis to beat Florida Atlantic. :(

not a great plan to put 29 on an underdog.

(says the guy who put 32 on boise st)

Boise was the favorite, though. Everybody had a ton of points on Boise and you've got to put 32 points on one of the games.

I think I had 28 or something in the high 20's.

Tough for Kai. Without him and his 3 FGs (and 2 50-yard+ kicks), UCLA has no chance to win it. Kai has already tied the record for most 50+ yard FGs by a kicker at UCLA and he just finished his freshman year. It did suck watching a guy who bled blue and gold like Bruce go out like that.

BTW, Brian Price is a beast. He's easily the best defensive player I've ever seen at UCLA and a top-10 pick in 2009.

I'm pretty sure I had 25+ on Boise State too. Ahh well, I never win these things anyways.

Five Spartans have been suspended for their bowl game:

AP[/url]"]ORLANDO, Fla. -- Defensive standouts Jonal Saint-Dic and SirDarean Adams are among five Michigan State players who will sit out the Champs Sports Bowl on Friday against No. 14 Boston College because of academic or other violations.

The Spartans said Monday that Saint-Dic, a senior defensive end, and three other players are academically ineligible for the bowl game. Adams, a senior linebacker, violated unspecified team rules.

The other ineligible players are wide receiver and return specialist Terry Love, wide receiver/cornerback T.J. Williams and offensive guard Abre Leggins.

"We're obviously disappointed for these young men and for their teammates," coach Mark Dantonio said in a release from the bowl site. "We will miss them and their contributions on and off the field here at the Champs Sports Bowl."

Saint-Dic told the Lansing (Mich.) State Journal that he failed a math class, his final requirement to graduate with a degree in sociology.

"I only took two classes this semester, a sociology class for three credits and a math class for five credits," Saint-Dic said by phone from his hometown of Elizabeth, N.J. "I need six [passing] credits to play in the bowl game, so if I would have taken more classes I would have been fine. But I came up two points short in the math class."

"I studied and studied, but I came up short. It's a shocker. This is something I'm going to learn from, I'm not going to let it put me down. I'm praying for my teammates and I'm going to get my degree, and then I'm going for my master's degree."

So that would be why the BC (-4) line is off the board at bodog. Damn, I would have been all over that line even if the players didn't get suspended.

Taylor will hurt, but not nearly as much as Bolden and McCoy. We have enough trouble against the run with those guys. Without them, Wisconsin may go for 300 on the ground. Meanwhile, on offense, if Cut would get his head out of his rear and get Foster 25 carries and Creer another 10, we'd be in good shape. Plus, the emergence of Gerald Jones, as well as Briscoe's play of late make Taylor hurt alot less.

On the coaching front, I'm not sure what to think. I'm hearing "insiders" saying that Doug Marrone is the guy, and others saying Kippy Brown is the guy. Meanwhile, we've interviewed Rob Spence. If he gets hired, there needs to be a major suicide watch in Knoxville. There are also insiders (as well as players and their families) who are bemoaning the loss of Trooper Taylor. Roper and Luke are as good as gone, and there are at least whispers of Chavis and Slade being gone (Slade by firing, Chief of his own volition.) Personally, I think it's time for a major overhaul, but I have no confidence that Fulmer will make very good hires. Even if he does, with all that has gone on over the past 3 weeks, I do not see us competing on New Years Day. This team is distracted in a MAJOR way.

If we can somehow win this game, and turn around and hire the following, I'd be thrilled:

OC/WR: Kippy Brown

QB: Scott Loeffler

RB: Larry Porter

TE/ST: Shane Beamer

DB: Tim Walton

It'll never happen, though. Just as we are on the verge of returning to our level of the mid 90's, everything falls apart.

And, for the record, Mayo is as good as gone. That one will hurt.

Good point on Jones and Briscoe, but Ainge really seems to rely on Lucas and when he's been injured earlier this year, the offense has struggled which worries me.

With McCoy, we've got nice depth to absorb his loss and the D-line has improved greatly the past couple weeks allowing the linebackers to make plays.

I'm confused. Are you saying Spence would be bad, or that he's not a popular choice? All I've heard about Spence has been positive and everywhere he's been he's produced a good offense.

I've heard that Slade may be on his way out, and wouldn't mind it terribly. Hadn't heard a thing about Chief, are you hearing that he'll retire or head somewhere else?

I expected the loss of Trooper to hurt current players and potential recruits, since he was easily our best recruiter.

Yeah, it sucks that all this turnover has happened just as we were looking extremely strong for next year. I don't understand the lack of faith in Fulmer though. I like to look at track record with coaches, and Fulmer has brought in Taylor, Cutcliffe, Chavis, Adkins, etc. in his career. That's a strong group of coaches. Probably his only biggest mistake was Randy Sanders, but it's hard to know beforehand that a terrific QB coach won't be able to handle OC duties.

And, for the record, Mayo is as good as gone. That one will hurt.

That really sucks. I don't understand it either, because another strong year (which is likely with the rest of the team probably much better next year) would possibly vault him into the top 2 rounds. Not sure that's where he's headed now.

By the way, do you frequent a message board for UT? If so, I'd be interested to know since I haven't been able to find a good Vols or Titans message board (of course, my comparison is with NSBB and that's probably not fair :D )

Purdue-Central Michigan is 41-27 Purdue with 10 minutes left in the third quarter and there have already been 3 touchdowns in the third quarter. O/U for this game was 72, guess I should have gone after that one also.

It would be nice if Purdue stopped turning the ball over.
