No, really guys, I feel bad about the mispronunciation. I'll go ahead and forward this thread to the Holiday Bowl announcers so they can be sure and get it right.

I love Pure Evil version of IMB

That's hilarious.

Whatever, I've come to terms with it. I'm not happy with it, but what can you do. Everyone across the country knows we got screwed, but it's done with. Our program has gotten better each year over the past four years, and we're definitely moving in the right direction. We get a New Year's Day bowl game in one of our Recruiting Pipeline states, we've got a top 25 recruiting class coming in next year, and we'll more than likely return a Heisman candidate. The North is ours for the taking again next year, and maybe the experience this year will help us win the Big 12 Championship and go to a BCS Bowl. Being pissy won't change anything, and this team deserves the support from our fans after being one of the top teams in the country all year long. We sold out our 16,000 alloted tickets (at $90 a pop) in under 2 hours today, and the Cotton Bowl itself is either already sold out or very close to it. If we have a good showing fan-wise in the Cotton Bowl and come out with a win, we're only going to look even more appealing to bowl game sites next year. I look forward to capping off this season with a big bowl victory and finishing in the Top 5.

Great points. And one of the many things that pisses me off are the thousands of Mizzou fans who are ticked off yet many are the same people wanting Pinkel gone last year and the year before. Wonder why these people have been so quiet this year, huh? Good luck in Dallas.

I think the "Fire Pinkel" callings were moreso after 05 than last year. The thing with Pinkel is he as grown so much as a coach since 2005. He implemented a new offensive style to use for when Daniel became the starter, he has become very good at making in-game adjustments, as opposed to 2004 and 2005 when we didn't seem to change a thing during the game, and he's become impressively more sociable, which I think is a big thing. He used to be a stone-faced, no emotion, type guy, but as he's gone through the past few years he's definitely loosened up, and I think that has helped him become a better coach. Does winning help the perception of the coach? Definitely, but you have to give the coach the opportunity to win. Is Pinkel perfect? Absolutely not. However, I think the fact that the Athletic Department stuck with him through the rough times and let him grow as a coach while bringing in more of his own recruits was the perfect way to handle the situation. Oftentimes it is very easy to call for a coach's head after two or three bad years, but for some guys it takes longer than that to settle in and become a better coach while building a program.

Great post. Couldn't agree more. It sucks that we got left out, and I was really hoping to cap off my senior year with a trip to a BCS bowl. But it's been enjoyable as hell this year. So much school pride on campus and throughout the state, its been a blast to be a part of. I will most definitely be going to the Cotton Bowl. Didn't get a ticket yet cause they are sold out, but I will find a way into the stadium. And Mizzou is definitely here to stay, in my opinion. No, we won't be top ten every year. But I see Missouri becoming an annual fix in the top 25. Next year should be a good year as well, with our tough games against Illinois, at Texas, and at Nebraska. Any of the Mizzou guys gonna go to the game?

Try a search on the word Pinkel Cubbies75. Pretty much all negative posts in '06.

Maybe at the time of the games and shortly thereafter, but in hindsight, last season was the year Pinkel started to grow as a coach. I'm not going to search back because I don't care that much and it doesn't change my opinion.

Can someone please explain to me how a top ten ranked team (Missouri) doesn't go to a BCS game? Can someone please explain why college football doesn't have a playoff system when every other college sport does? The BCS is full of BS.

I'm not going to LA to watch the Illini get killed by USC. Even though I've go connections out there: I'm not going. The opening line is USC by 14.

That's just dumb. Rose Bowls don't come every day, and the odds in Vegas should have little to do with whether you go or not.

With Zooker around, they should become more common.

dear illinois fans

ron zook is not going to build a power in champaign. they'll be a lot like Iowa Purdue and Wisconsin, top 25 for a couple years, mediocre for a couple years, and so on alternating every couple years or so. They won't be as consistent as the Buckeyes and Wolverines. Zook isnt a good coach

WEll since you said so I guess its true, and us Illini fans should just give up. I guess a coach cant improve and learn from mistakes he may have made as a younger head coach. I watched the Illini alot this year, and I really have very few complaints about Zooks coaching.

and btw, zooks class this year, while lacking the star power of last year's, is better from top to bottom so far.

You guys will be fine. You'll some 6-6's and if things go well a good shot at the Big 10 title.

Did you just say we will see some 6-6's? I really highly doubt that with the talent that is being brought into Champaign, and thats before they were making Rose Bowls, and beating #1's? From this point on I really see no reason the Illini arent at least 9-3 year in year out, depending on their schedule. We arent that far off from getting to be equal with Michigan and Ohio States talent level.

Wow...one 9 win season and it's 9 wins from here on? Your talking about someday getting Michigan talent and I am assuming you must know they won only 8 games. You beat a team that played a horrible non conference schedule, a nice win but come on.

Its called recruiting. Zook is bringing in top classes, there is no reason to see things go downward. Michigan only won 8 games, but they still have tons of talent, you know that. We beat a team that the coaches, and the polls show as the #1 team in the country, at their homefield, which is a bitch to play in.

He coached a terrible game against Iowa, but was pretty solid outside of that game. You maintain that the SEC is far and above a better conference than the rest. So if Zook can continue bringing in top 10-15 recruiting classes at Illinois, it should be an easier job for him to maintain a good program, right? I think they can easily be as consistant as Ohio State and Michigan in the next few years.

The more posts I read the more I realize there are a bunch of people who don't follow the Big Ten but pretend they do. Michigan was an 8-win team because Henne and Hart, two Heisman likely candidates at the beginning of the season, were hurt. You saw what happened to OU when Bradford was hurt. If you get past the hate, if Ron Zook stays at least throughout his contract, Illinois will have a bunch of 7+ win seasons, meaning there should be some 9+win and 10+win seasons, as well.

Actually, they were an 8-win team because they lost to a I-AA team and got absolutely smoked by Oregon at home. They may have been a 9-win team had they had those guys for the Wisco game but that's about it.

Well, as much as it sucks being passed over by the Orange Bowl, it is generating a lot of talk nation wide. Lots of people are ripping kansas and the Orange Bowl for passing over Mizzou. And lots of fans nation wide are commenting on it. The Mizzou scout board is full of fans of other teams telling us that we got screwed over. Anyways, I'm hearing one of the reasons they picked Kansas is that their AD guaranteed the sale of 30,000 tickets. Yet, they havent sold those tickets yet and are even offering them to students for 1/3 the price they paid for them. Meanwhile, Mizzou sold out its allotment of 16,000 in less than two hours, and I'm sure there will be more than that. Anyways, sorry, rant over.
