I expect Scarlett Johansson to come knocking on my door looking for her next boyfriend by the end of the week, but if history is any indicator there are some things in life that just aren't as probable as our expectations

Why would she do that? She knows where to find me.

I can already hear the wheels turning over at the OH.

FWIW, a very well respected and reliable source from NSBB is reporting that the deal is done. Again, take this with a grain of salt.

I almost think that at this point we see what we have with Gallagher in spring training. This could be a good NON-TRADE if his fast ball is in the mid-90's. For me I would rather see a kid with potential as the 5th starter rather than Dempster or Marquis. Lieber isn't a sure thing either. Just my $.02

Just FWIW I watched Sean throw his last bullpen before he left for AZ and he had a MLB catcher from another team catching. He was consistently Mid 90's and his offspeed pitches were there and there were a few other MLB players watching and they had nothing but good things to say. He has been working out really hard as evidenced by his dropping twenty five pounds and has been working on being ready as soon as ST opens...... ;)

Good to hear... hope he keeps it up!

It's too bad we can't just trade, say, Pie+ for Greene (yea, I know, the ten millionth Green proposal), move Soriano to CF (where his bat is far more valuable), and start Murton in LF.

Go to war with this team...

C - Soto

1B - Lee

2B - DeRosa

3B - Ramirez

SS - Greene

LF - Murton

CF - Soriano

RF - Fukudome

SP - Z, Lilly, Hill, Gallagher, Marquis

RP - Wood, Howry, Marmol, Wuertz, Eyre, and whoever else...

Wish him luck and can't wait to see him earn one of the starting slots.

NO matter what happens with Sean and the Cubs, I'm going to follow his career and be a fan. I got the chance to see him pitch a couple of times for Peoria, and loved watching him pitch. So this is great news.

I don't think the team, as it stands right now is a playoff team in the Central. But that's not to say we won't make a deal midseason to improve ourselves.

How do you figure they aren't a favorite? I'm not particularly stoked about this team's chances of doing anything serious in the playoffs, but I see no reason to think the brewers have done anything to get better than us.

Their defense was brutal last year. Their defensive efficiency was .8 standard deviations below average. The Cubs were almost 1.5 standard deviations above average.

They've made a difference just by adding Cameron, moving Braun to the outfield, and moving Hall to the infield.

Yeah, I definately don't buy the fact that since they upgraded their defense a little bit that they're the favorites. It's going to be close I'm sure, but to say "we're not a playoff team in this division" is a little silly.

I think it's pretty much a tossup at this point.

I'd much rather the Cubs upgrade at SS, but if Roberts can be had without giving up too much it's a no-brainer.

I agree... I don't mind the idea of Roberts. I just would not be happy to see the Cubs overpay for him. If a Murton/Marshall/ low level prospect with higher ceiling can get the deal done cool... if not then we should save the chips to deal for positions that we need like leadoff hitter (just kidding... I am new to the forum but have observed from afar for a couple years now so I now leadoff hitter is not a position :D ).

From what I heard, he really opened some eyes in AZ last fall.

All the more reason not to trade him.

Yeah if we do end up trading for roberts I hope the centerpiece is Marshall and not Gallagher. Unfortunately I get the feeling that it will be gallagher.

Probably. I'm at the point where I assume we're giving up Gallagher, so I've pretty much gotten over the fact we'll be trading him. That is, until he turns into an ace on the O's and I get very very mad.

I'm also in the "Let's Not Trade Gallagher" camp. We don't need Roberts right now. He's a luxury. If we're scuffling midseason and Roberts could be the answer, then explore trading for him then.

I'd offer the Orioles their pick of three from Patterson, Murton, Cedeno, Holliman, Veal, Fox, Hart, Lansford, Petrick, Paweleck, and Ascaino. I might even throw Marshall in if needed to finish the deal. But that would be the best I'd offer, knowing full well that the Orioles likely don't take it.

The one thing throughout this entire Roberts discussion that I can't believe isn't mentioned more (by the media, not NSBB) is the lack of a SS. Do we really need Brian Roberts? What is the purpose of being held ransom by Angelos and his goons when what we really need is to get over the idea that Theriot is some sort of unquantifiable 'sparkplug' that dissolves the fact that he maxes at a .700 OPS with limited range. At this point our options are counting on Cedeno to breakout or we drug Angelos long enough for him to finally agree to a trade, and even if so, who really wants to part with Gallagher/Marshall? Rule #1: Don't trade pitching for hitting. I still don't know what the answer to this problem is, but I'm willing to go to ST with this team and look for help at the AS break instead.

When did everyone decide to hate Theriot?? Almost every posts is how we need a new SS... I couldve sworn during the season the majority here was on The Riot bandwagon..Everyone saying " Give him a shot, play him!!" " RIOTTT" and everyone saying how he was the spark of the team...Then everything now about him is negative..Hendry loves the kid and there is probabaly no way he is looking at any other option than Theriot there..

A - I still don't understand why people attribute a group of posters' opinions to the entire board. The people who were all over the Theriot bandwagon aren't necessarily the same people who want a replacement now.

B - Theriot was an upgrade at the time because the alternative was Cesar Izturis. Of course, most of us wanted him to play over Crapturis.

C - Theriot is the worst player in our projected every day lineup. It's that simple. I invite you to challenge that. The only player you could possibly cite as worse is Pie, and I guess that all depends on how highly you value him and what you think of minor league numbers.
