Ugh. Lou plans to hit Theriot 2nd. Is Dusty back?

I saw that. Wasn't too happy about it, but soon realized that Lou changes his mind on lineup decisions every 2 weeks, and sometimes even sooner than that. It's probably less than 50/50 that Theriot survives ST as the 2 hitter, and if he does that, he probably won't survive April. It will be another year of a rotation in the 2 spot is my guess. Theriot, Pie, DeRosa, and Fukudome will all probably get significant time in that spot.

I expect he'll be the starting shortstop barring an amazing spring by Cedeno/ another trade.

Well, yea. That has never really been in question, unfortunate as it may be. What I and, I think, most were hoping was that Theriot would hit around 8th.

That assessment contradicts what Orioles president Andy MacPhail told me a few hours ago. He insisted that nothing has changed and nothing is dead, and labeled rumors of a proposed 7-for-2 trade between the clubs as “pure fiction.”

It now appears that the Cubs would be willing to part with Rich Hill if they could get Roberts and Bedard in return, but the Orioles haven’t shown a willingness to package their two bargaining chips in the same trade. And at least two people in the organization don’t believe the Cubs have enough to offer in such a blockbuster.

No no no

Yeah like Matt Murton last year. Was batting #2 all spring, couple games early, and then poof.

Theriot in the 8 spot is a good fit.

My prediction if in fact this deal is dead (at least for the time being) is that Roberts will have a terrrible first half of the season. If in fact, he has done "roids" more than once, then he wont dare try to take them again. Rich Hill will have a break out year and although Andy will be calling Jimbo, to possibly get this deal done--Hendry will stand pat. I want Brian Roberts as much as anyone but I think it would be interesting, if this is the way things played out.

From BCB:

At a different conference Ron Santo mentioned that the Cubs were going to make two more moves. He seemed to know some kind of inside information as he said, "...and you will like these moves, believe me."

I think Santo is just picking up on Hendry's comment of 2 more deals. As for the "you will like these moves" quote, I think it's just Santo being the eternal optimist, not inside information.

Nothing that anyone of us didn't know, but:

And Hendry, after being asked if he'd trade top prospects for that "right guy" who could put the Cubs over the top, said he would. So I would anticipate he'll be busy the next three weeks.

I just hope his idea of the "right guy" isn't Neifi Perez.

I'm sick of these "Two more moves" talk? Let's get something done before ST already...

Roto just put this up

The Baltimore Sun believes the Cubs would part with Rich Hill in a deal for both Erik Bedard and Brian Roberts.

Hill, Felix Pie, Sean Marshall, Sean Gallagher, Ronny Cedeno and two prospects for Bedard and Roberts? If the rumored seven-for-two deal really has been discussed, the package may have looked something like that. It's highly unlikely that the Cubs will land both Bedard and Roberts, but if they did, they'd have to be looked at as the NL's best team entering the season.

If there is a way to land both without Hill ,which I doubt, With our rotation and lineup, easily a World Series caliber team

I say just shoot for Bedard using Pie++.

That's what we should do...Z,Bedard,Lilly,Hill,Lieber would be a sick rotation..Then sign Lofton or play Fuld out there..With that rotation, I would not mind the lineup one bit..

Ditto. Sign Lofton, maybe acquire Byrd or someone who can hit lefties good on the cheap. Then use Lofton and Fuld against righties (since Lofton will probably need a few days off), and Byrd or someone against the lefties. Then you'd still have Colvin in the wings, assuming he can up his walks.

We'd probably split up the righties and lefties though, and go something like:

Bedard

Zambrano

Lilly

Lieber

Hill

which would be amazing.

You can't "split up" 3 lefties.

No, but they aren't pitching back to back to back.

I really don't care about what hand they throw with, but it seems like the Cubs do (or would).

Soooo disappointed in you people.

-5 degree weather this weekend and you couldn't even push this thing to 130 pages? For shame.
