Fox Sports[/url]"]WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa pleaded guilty to driving under the influence Wednesday, eight months after police found him asleep inside his running sport utility vehicle at a stop light and smelling of alcohol.

La Russa said he had decided to plead guilty to the misdemeanor because it was in the best interest of all concerned.

"I accept full responsibility for my conduct, and assure everyone that I have learned a very valuable lesson and that this will never occur again," La Russa said in a statement released by his attorney, David Roth. La Russa did not appear in court to plead guilty.

As part of his plea agreement, La Russa will serve at least six months' probation, pay a $678.50 fine, complete DUI school and any recommended treatment and complete 50 hours of community service, according to state prosecutors.

La Russa, 63, was arrested in March in Jupiter, where the Cardinals play spring training games.

OK, My question is if La Russa really did learn a lesson and feels remorse then why is he hiding behind his attorney? Let him be a man and come out and make that statement himself. Face the media and act like he has a set.

LOL, he already did plenty of that last spring and again after Hancock's crash. The trial at this point, was a formality. The plea was already worked out.

Did anybody else see the video of La Russa attempting to recite the alphabet after being pulled over? This needs to be on youtube immediately.

he's uncle Roger drunk

What is that from? Reason I ask is that I used to have an uncle Roger who drank a lot and was pretty much a jerk wasted or sober... which is why he was released by my aunt.

I sure as heck wouldn't want to talk to the press any more than necessary about anything. It's all too easy to get misquoted or something that makes you look like more of an idiot than you did before.

TLR, who is an attorney, is behaving like a good client. MO & CA attorneys, keep a lookout for the bar notices - there will be a reprimand pending.

Gotta love it. Cause he's a baseball manager he gets no time in jail. What bs.

Thats standard for somebodys first DUI. Its usually a 500-750 fine 2 years court supervision, and you are ordered to undergo a certain amount of alcohol classes depending on how you are rated on your evaluation.

Depends on where you get your DUI and how strict the laws are there. One of my good friends got one down south (in Ventura for those familiar with the area) and had to spend a day in jail. But I guess the laws up here in Davis aren't as tough and had he been pulled over up here he probably wouldn't have gone to jail.
