After seeing this deal wouldn't you assume this will only help to increase Marmol's trade value right now. If Hendry were smart he would trade high for once. I would like to believe that a package of Marmol and Theriot should be more than enough to land Johnny Peralta.

Not only did the second worst MLB GM in Chicago wildly overpay for Linebrink in both dollars and years, he also gets to cough up a second round draft choice for the privilege.

Let's wait until the winter is over before naming the worst GM in Chicago. Personally, I think KW will prove his claim to the title by spring.

If Hendry signs Matsui to the 3 year deal like is being speculated, he will leap back in front of KW. At least bullpen is an actual need for the White Sox, whereas 2nd base is really nowhere on the list of Cubs problems, but yet our GM is looking for one.

Except for the fact that the Indians have an abundance of set up men and are smart enough to realize that Theriot sucks.

I love how Sox fans rationalize this horrid deal by saying how bad their pen was last year, and that this provides veteran stability.

Let's see how they feel in 2010.

Interesting comment from MLB trade rumors:

My coworker Jonathan makes a good point - thought the Sox wouldn't give four-year deals to pitchers? They made a huge fuss over Mark Buehrle. Suddenly Scott Linebrink is worthy of breaking the rule again?

Way to build team morale! [-X

I don't think the Brewers felt too good in '07, to say nothing of 3 years from now. Certainly it wasn't all Linebrink's fault, but his arrival really did nothing for them. They still blew lead after lead down the stretch.

Wow! I know this deal happened last week, but I didn't care enough to check it out until now. Still waiting for Kaz.

But 4/19 has me thinking. Are Dempster, Eyre and Ohman tradeable enough to be paid by their new teams? It is a tremendous arbitrage opportunity where middle relievers make about half of what a Fukudome is supposed to command. I guess the simple answer is that Fukudome will get a lot more than $10 million per year.

I just realized that two of the guys that were part of that bullpen have both signed ridiculous contracts in the last few days, 4/46 for Cordero and 4/19 for Linebrink. For two guys getting that much money, they sure didn't help the Brewers much when they needed it most.

And yes, like USS, I don't think it was all their fault, but still, wow.

Wow. Y'know, Hendry's deals to Howry and Eyre aren't that bad anymore.

3 years $12M for Bob Howry was never a bad deal... people are falling all over themselves praising the Wood deal, but it's pretty unlikely that he'll be able to put up numbers like Howry had the last two seasons.

The Eyre deal, on the other hand, was always stupid.
