They can sign with their current team right now.

This was the purpose of that annoying "Post Review" feature. :D

Cubs.com[/url]"]The Cubs will continue to work toward re-signing pitcher Kerry Wood, said Hendry, who planned another conversation with Wood's agent, Pat Rooney, on Monday night or Tuesday morning. Wood posted a 3.33 ERA in 20 relief appearances in 2007, and the Cubs have interest in him for that role again in 2008.

"I don't think we're worried that he's a free agent now," Hendry said. "Kerry was a free agent last year when we signed him. ... If Kerry, at the end of the day, really wants to be here, I think he'll know that we want him here. We're hopeful that we'll get something worked out."

Sounds optimistic but I don't think we have much to worry about.

According to Kaplin on The Score Woody wants 2 yrs 10mm. Sounds like it will happen. I would assume that there will be lots of incentives.

I don't want to start a new thread just for this, so I will temporarily hijack this one.

What's the deadline for Scott Eyre to exercise his player option?

Looks like Eyre will be a Cub next year.

The only issue still to be resolved regarding potential Cubs free-agents is Scott Eyre’s $3.8M player option for next season. Eyre has until November 12th to file for free-agency. If he doesn’t, he returns to the Cubs in 2008.

The 12th was yesterday, and so apparently he didn't file for free agency (as expected).

Eyre kinda of turned things around last year, and relievers as we know are mostly a crapshoot. He's been good before and horrible before and good AND horrible in the same season. Eyre is not my personal concern.

Yahoo Sports

If free agent righty Kerry Wood can't negotiate a deal that would return him to the Chicago Cubs, the oft-injured pitcher could fit into the plans of the Boston Red Sox according to the Boston Globe.

Wood, who made the transition from oft-injured starter to reliever, could be the type of power arm the Sox like to have late in the game, the role they envisioned for Eric Gagné.
