A source on the East coast told me this morning that the following rumor made the rounds in Orlando earlier this week:

Cubs trade Jason Marquis (2 years $16.25M) to the Mariners

Mariners trade Richie Sexson (1 year $14M) to the Giants

Giants trade Randy Winn (2 years $16.25M) to the Cubs

No idea if the rumor is still active, or died on the vine.

Interesting...sounds like a bad move for all of the teams.

Of course Hendry has interest in Randy Winn.

Can we get a new GM already? Ours is absolutely horrible who doesn't have a clue how to put a good team together.

Randy Winn, 2/16.25m

Ugh.

That's almost as bad as Jason Marquis at 2/16.25m

If trading Marquis just means trading a contract for an equally bad contract, I think I'd prefer we just keep Marquis.

At least the Cubs have a chance to improve an outfield spot, whereas I don't know that there is anyone out there that is an improvement over Marquis in the rotation.

that'd be a great deal for the cubs. get rid of a guy who doesn't help us in marquis. We take in a guy who knows how to get on base. 300 avg 353 obp last year. 345 career obp. This trade would be a good indication jacque jones is on his way out, meaning we'll get rid of his inconsistent self. I think this trade would be a good step in the right direction of getting useless junk off the team.

Unless Jones stays and you clog up the outfield and delay Felix Pie in center even longer. Hendry needs to realize your offense ins't that bad and better defense in center is more important than another overpriced bat. Cubs biggest need is in the PEN!!

I'd rather have Big Sex and put him in RF. Go out and get someone to lead off, plus Soriano into the 4 hole, Richie in the 6 hole and call it a day.

Sexson's been rumored to be going to the Giants since the Hot Stove kicked in. Ray Durham's been rumored to be the guy the Mariners would want in exchange.

As for Randy Winn...no thanks.

I'd look at it as Randy Winn would be a better stopgap to Pie than Jones. He's not ideal in CF but neither is Jones. If and when Pie learns the strike zone, Winn is not unmoveable. Either way Jones is as good as gone, IMO, and Pie doesn't look ready yet.

Only other way to move him is packaging him with someone like Pie or Patterson.

How do you propose Pie get ready? Going back to AAA? Sitting on the bench?

And Randy Winn puts us in a worse situation than we have with Jones now.

Pie will never "get ready" in Iowa! He kills the pitching there. The only way he takes the next step is to be given the CF job and have a month or two to adjust to MLB pitching and UMPIRES. If he keeps getting a start and has to constantly look over his shoulder, he will never adjust. Let him start the season in CF and bat 6th or 7th and see what he is doing on June 1. Then make moves if you need to. Pie has earned that much.

Get a grip. This is a rumor or speculation probably started on some message board. Before we jump all over Hendry, let's see what he does or at least get the rumor from some reliable source.

Did it already. The whole "not being good" thing isn't new for him.

Yes get Sexson to play CO. He won't be good out there, but he'll be useful. If we have his bat in right we can afford to play Pie in CF while his offense isn't good so he can cover ground

Winn is better than he looks at first glance. Playing in two of the four worst offensive parks in baseball the past six years hasn't helped his stats much. If we're trading Pie for a good return, I wouldn't mind Winn in CF over Jones. I know Jones shows up with good defensive metrics, but I feel more comfortable with Winn out there than Jacque.

Plus, if we're getting Marquis out of the rotation, that would be a good thing.

Ha-ha; thanks for the laugh. (Insert missing ROFL smiley here.)

No Problem! But I didn't say the ONLY problem.

Their pen is at the bottom of their problems. It can all be done in house no moves need to be made except re-signing Wood.

Really? Other than Marmol and Wood, who do you trust? Maybe Howry. Dumpster is better as a starter just to get him out of the closer role. Neal cotts excites you? Lou obviously hates Scott Eyre.

Howry

Marmol

Wood--if they resign him

Wuertz

Thats 3 currently, and possibly 4 very very solid relievers.
