Just broke on ESPN:

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Philadelphia Phillies acquired reliever Brad Lidge from the Houston Astros in a five-player trade, a source told ESPN.com.

The Phillies sent outfielder Michael Bourn, pitcher Geoff Geary and minor leaguer Mike Costanzo to Houston, and received infielder Eric Bruntlett in addition to Lidge.

The teams scheduled an announcement Wednesday night at the general managers meetings in Orlando.

Good deal for the Phils. This puts Myers back in the rotation (or at least it should) and immediately improves their staff.

It's a great deal for Philly. I'm not sure what it does for Houston. I guess that's good for Cub fans though.

I don't see why this is such a terrible deal for Houston. They didn't get anything really exciting, but what kind of return should you expect for a year of Brad Lidge (where he'll cost $7M or whatever)?

I absolutely agree. Seems like an even trade to me.

Looks like an even deal to me. How long can you give Brad Lidge a mulligan for anyway? He was horrible in 2006 and his save percentage this year was just garbage.

Lidge will have fun closing 1-run games in that park. Still like the deal for the Phils. Now, if I draft Brett Myers in my fantasy league it won't be a complete waste.

he pitched fine this year... he's still a good closer

good deal for the phillies

I think this is a really good deal for the Phillies. Now they can move Myers to the rotation and have Hamels and Myers as a 1-2 punch. With their offense, I think they will be a very good team.

they could have had a 1-2 punch of hamels/myers last year if they weren't idiots. maybe they would have won a game in the playoffs if they weren't starting kyle kendrick in game 2.

Does anyone think this means the Cubs go after Luke Scott? He's not bad.

This is why it's a bad trade for Houston. It moves Pence to RF and moves Luke Scott to the bench/undervalued trade bait for no reason.

So some of my Phillie fan friends are upset at this trade beacuse they gave up "Rowand's replacement (Bourn) and their third baseman of the future (Costanzo) for a guy who will never recover from being owned by Puljols (Lidge)".

They didn't need Lidge to move Brett Myers back. That's a fallacy in thinking. It's because they're stupid.

Lidge's ERA+ was worse than Michael Wuertz's. He had 19 saves and blew 8 saves which looks terrible. His opponent OPS was worse than Michael Wuertz's, and it's defintely on the high side for an "elite" closer.
