San Diego has one thing going for it--nice weather. Other than that, it's a glorified mall.

Having lived there for 7 years, I concur - it's all frosting and no cake. I've never met a shallower, more selfish and more mentally and spiritually unambitious group of troglodytes in my life.

Careful. There are exceptions.

Don't knock the beaches.

California beaches suck. Sorry.

Hmm, I like the beaches in north-central SD County...La Jolla Cove, etc. LA and Orange County beaches suck for the most part (though I do like the quiet beaches past Malibu).

It's mainly the Pacific Ocean that sucks, IMO.

Not if you're in Hawai'i. ;)

Are the Cubs actually out of it, or is the SD talk purely speculative?

Pure speculation. I think the Cubs are still the frontrunners.

Have there been any updates as to when we're supposed to hear Kosuke's decision?

Every few days, we hear "it'll be another few days."

Well, here's an update from Rotoworld....

Kosuke Fukudome is set to announce that he's leaving Japan to play in MLB next year.

There was still a little doubt, so it's nice to see he'll make it official. According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, Fukudome could agree to terms with an MLB team within the next 24 hours. The Cubs, Padres and Royals are thought to be the frontrunners. He's also been connected with the Giants, Rangers, White Sox and Red Sox. A three-year deal is expected. Dec. 7 - 3:22 pm et

I would hope there would be exceptions, in a metro area that size. As a group though...

What would you expect. Everyone that lives here is from somewhere else.

Looks like Kuroda to the Dodgers is gonna be official:

Hiroki Kuroda-S- Player Dec. 12 - 2:37 am et

Hiroki Kuroda reportedly informed the Hiroshima Carp on Tuesday night that he planned to sign with the Dodgers.

He's expected to leave for the U.S. as soon as Wednesday to take his physical and sign the contract, which is probably worth about $30 million for three years. At that price, he's no worse of a gamble than Carlos Silva or Kyle Lohse. Still, he's not a great bet to be more than a fourth starter and he could always turn out to be a Kaz Ishii or maybe even a Kei Igawa.

That's an excellent pitching staff.

You forgot Billingsley who I think is their 1 or 2 best SP. Schmidt, no idea what they are going to get out of him.
