yeah the orioles would pretty much laugh that offer out of the room

Gotta agree. It's hard to believe they couldn't get a better offer for Bedard and Tejada.

Posted

yeah but we could play the you owe us one angle for trachsel

heres a legit offer:

Rich Hill, Carlos Marmol, Ronny Cedeno, Felix Pie and one or two of {Matt Murton, Eric Patterson, Sean Marshall, Tyler Colvin, Donald Veal, Mark Prior} for Erik Bedard and Miguel Tejada. We could take Jay Payton off their hands too if they wanted.

The Orioles probably won't trade both Bedard and Tejada in any deal. One of them will probably be gone this offseason, but with their current situation and the rising fan base of the local Nationals, they can't afford to trade away their two biggest drawing cards. Yes, Nick Markakis is probably the star of the future (albeit he isn't that good) but right now Bedard and Tejada are pretty much everything for them. They'd get a lot of talent in this trade, but I would not be shocked to see someone like the Dodgers trade Chad Billinglsey for Erik Bedard straight up. They can then deal Tejada to the Cubs for a combination of Hill and prospects/young players. There's really no realistic way we get either of them without including Rich Hill. In fact there's little chance the Cubs make any move through the trade market for an asset as good as Willis, Tejada, Crawford, Haren, Bedard, etc without including Rich Hill.

Trading Hill in these deals will add the new player (who is better than Hill in all the cases) but at the same time creating a hole in the rotation and adding about ten to fifteen million to the payroll. I'm fairly certain we can do better by keeping Hill and spending that ten mil on the market than trading Hill and adding to the payroll.

The chances of the Cubs trading Rich Hill in a deal for either Dontrelle Willis or Miguel Tejada are zero.

Not 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%.

Zero.

And this is coming from a guy who believes Jim Hendry was dropped on his head multiple times as a baby.

exactly.

fukudome + hill would be better and cheaper than trading for tejada and trading/signing a SP to take hill's spot.

We can trade for Tejada without including Hill. I'm absolutely certain of that.

Agreed. I think most are tossing Hill in to the O's with the idea of getting Bedard, too, in which case Hill would most definitely be needed.

That's because you're wrong. The Orioles don't have to trade Tejada. They're not going to trade him for prospects when he has two years left. Maybe next off season or in the middle of the 2009 season. Not this offseason, no chance in hell. Even if they did, our systems lack of talent would get blown out of the water by about 25 other organizations. We have to include Hill or we're getting trumped.

we'll make a friendly interweb wager on that.

I would probably agree with you abuck. There has been talk in Baltimore that there's going to be a complete overhaul. It sounds like Tejada is gone for sure, and depending on if they can't sign Bedard to a long-term contract, he's probably gone too.

Or, you are wrong. Yeah because the dodgers, angels, dbacks, rays, yanks, redsox, etc are all just pining for a SS and there are about 84 3B on the market. Its just the cubs and the cards who need SS and to a lesser extent the astros. No, they don't have to trade Tejada now, but the team is taking a different direction, and his value may not be higher. Excluding Hill does not necessarily mean that the offer would just be made up of prospects, there are a couple other guys on the team that Hendry hasn't given NTCs to. Based on MacPhail's quotes, I think Marmol could be the centerpiece, not Hill.

This is an interesting read.

personally i think that this season was the beginning of what will be a pretty ugly decline for tejada

just my opinion. He doesn't look like he's in great shape any more. If he's really off steroids (who knows with the HGH business) then I think he's going to fall off pretty quickly.

Steriods were banned going into the 2005 season. 2005 and 2006 were two of his three best seasons in the majors.

Yeah, Truff said that...

I have no problem waiting until the Mitchell report comes out. If hes on it, I'll take him for 50 cents on the dollar, if hes not, I'll still take him.

Tejada-HGH>>>>>>>Theriot+Hendry spending 13M/season for the next 2 years.

I'd take him too, my point is steroid testing doesn't really mean anything here.

i can think of five teams off the top of my head who would be interested in acquiring tejada - all of which have better young talent than the cubs if we exclude hill.

But that doesn't mean they'd be willing to give up better talent than the Cubs.

And I assume most of those teams are looking at him as a 3B where there are many better options available on the trading block. Go ahead and make your case.

Kosuke Fukudome-OF-Player Nov. 14 - 11:53 pm et

Kosuke Fukudome received an offer from the Yomiuri Giants this week and is weighing remaining in Japan.

"He still is very much considering his options back in Japan and clearly weighing his options here," a U.S.-based source told FOXSports.com. "It is not a foregone conclusion he comes this way." The source went on to say that Fukudome, who is being courted by the Cubs, would likely wait until after Thanksgiving before making any decisions.
