If ARod and Boras had to take less money on a new contract. I know that there's always some sucker out there that will fall for Boras' game, but there are questions and discussion about all of the "favorites".

Cubs - don't have an owner

Red Sox - talking about bringing back Lowell

Angels - Moreno told Selig he wouldn't go overboard

Dodgers - ARod was never close to Torre

Mets - Have Reyes and Wright

Giants - Losing team

White Sox - Cheap owner and losing team

Phillies - need pitching to compete

Marlins - no money

It would be interesting to see what happens if the "interested" teams can only come up with offers of $20 - $23 million per year for 4-5 years. It will never happen, but it would be fun to see the lies, spin, and manipulation that would come from Boras.

I guess it depends on how you define more money. He only had 3 years remaining, where now he will probably get 8 years in a new contract. His new contract will likely triple what he would make in 3 years combined. He could take a little less per year, but I think the security of a guaranteed contract is easily worth more.

I would rather have 8 years at $200 million than 3 years at $90.

i dont think 8/200 is a sure thing here.

the torre going to the dodgers makes it interesting. dont both LA teams need a 3B?

White Sox - Cheap owner and losing team

the dodgers have andy laroche at 3b, no? Contrary to what many say, I think Boras is not all about money. IF ARod is more interested in things other than money, Boras would strive to meet those needs. ARod wanted off the Yankees regardless of loss of money imo.

I'm going out on a limb and saying he doesn't get more than the yankees offer (8/240, i think). It would be great if that's correct.

For our sake, I hope its because he wants to take less money and go to the Cubs.

Marlins - no money.

They have money.

They just opt to not use it.

Absolutely right. Jeffrey Loria is absolutely loaded, and from what I've heard he may just be willing to open his wallet for A-Rod. But just because they haven't spent money doesn't mean they don't have any.

For all of the crap we give Hendry and co. I would not have guessed that the Orioles have a top ten payroll. You really have to ask your self where their money goes. At least some of Hendry's spending is understandable, minus probably 15-20 million.

If you believe the rumor that the Yankees offered a 5 year 150 million dollar deal. He actually opted out of an 8/240 million dollar deal.

IMHO, he's trying to do better then his original 10 year 252 million that he signed w/ Texas.

I think there is some question as to if he'll receive that much.

Same difference. Actually, I read somewhere that each team gets about $30 million this year from MLB.com, TV rights, or franchising rights. In other words, they're all making a ton of money.

Hey, we're better than the second worst run organization! FWIW, the worst run organization (Giants) spent very slightly less than the orioles. And the worst (Astros) spent only slightly less as well.

I'm starting to think ARod didn't opt out for money reasons, he wants out of NYC. He's been willing to take a pay cut to change teams before.

my worst fear is him wanting to play with another certain superstar in a certain baseball crazy town that wears red.

call in Cubs pessimism if you will, but i still hold that fear.

How can the Yankees not afford to keep this guy? These are the list of players that will be off of their books after 2008. 2008 might be hard year to swallow but after that, things look much better.

Giambi-$21M

Mussina-$12M

Pavano-$10M

Farns-$5.5

4 guys=$48.5

Likely:

Abreu-$15M

Clemens-~$20M

Pettitte=???$$$$

Potentially clear for 2009=$80M+. Obviously these guys will need to be replaced on the roster with someone else so its not exactly pure flexibilty but they wont be signing a 1b for $21M and get 5 FA agents at $10M+. This team is getting old in a hurry, they better work on keeping Arod.

Actually, I think that number is somewhere around $45-46 million. Which means that d-bag in Florida put about $25-30M in his pocket each of the last 2 years.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious he wanted out of NY, but Boras won't let him take a pay cut. No matter how much he signs for, Boras' "spin" will be that he got a significant raise.

Completely agree. ARod knows he's going to get paid somewhere. It may be a few mil less per year than he would make in NY but he's still going to have one of the highest salaries in the league. I just don't think it was worth it to him to stay in NY because of all the crap he took from the fans and the media.

I wonder if Boras would throw in a clause making sure ARod gets paid 5% or more than the second highest salary in baseball.
