I don't like that fact that it seems like Jeff Luhnow's position in the organization is dictating so much of this. I don't like the set up one bit where he (luhnow) is apparently DeWitt's special little guy.

I don't blame Antonetti for having his reservations.

I'm very disappointed for now because it seems like a change in philosophy is not going to happen. They will probably continue to draft on the cheap and sign players on the cheap.

Hopefully I'm wrong.

I hope you're wrong too, but I really don't like the way things have been going with Luhnow. Better hope that Rasmus is as advertised and that we have another Pujols hidden in the system. The only hope I'm holding out right now is that DeWitt will open up the wallet to make a "splash" to try to let Mo get a decent reputation.

What kind of idiot would pass on Antonetti. LOL@ the Cardinals.

One version is that Dolan offered him a raise and near term GM succession to keep him in Cleveland.

I suppose that's possible. But, it would seem odd to me that a guy waits who knows how many years for a GM opening with Cleveland when he could land a GM job now.

Not really considering hes declined to even interview for GM jobs before this. A great GM can get a bad rep and possibly ruin his future career if he steps into a situation to fail. Its not like Antonetti's stock is going to go down or there won't be GM jobs available in the future. Hes very smart to wait for the Cleveland job, or another good situation.

On a related note, I wonder if he would be able to take Diamond View with him if he were to leave.

I thought about that, maybe they let him keep the source code or whatever the infrastructure is for it without all the blanks being filled in, so to speak.

There were apparently some contract and autonomy issues along with Dolan luring him back to Cleveland. It would presumably happen in the near future like I said, with Shapiro taking over as CEO or President or whatever.

Rosenthal reported on FSMW that he turned down the job just now. The ESPN story had quotes from Antonetti saying he turned down the job, that are now removed (the Lamping and DeWitt spin machine denied that they offered it to anyone but Mo). It's all documented in the BTF and GRB threads on the topic though.

Anyway, same result. We'll see how Mozeliak does, but he better step it up after the Pineiro signing.
