Do any IU fans know who the redacted player is?

 

Judging by the length of the name and the capitalization, it's DeAndre Thomas or DeShawn Thomas. Since other current college players were named and DeShawn Thomas is a minor, that's most likely who it is.

 

Other minors were named.

 

DeAndre Thomas was already implicated(probably the wrong word here) in the report that stemmed from the initial October self-reporting. It's likely him.

 

Although Eric Gordon Jr. = DeAndre Thomas.

 

Are you sure other minors were named? There are some current high school players named, but all are seniors I believe. They might not be minors (I am unsure). There are also no unsigned players that I know of -- well, besides Bud Mackey.

 

And you're right, adding the "Jr." would change things. Didn't think about that.

 

Derek Elston, IU committ in the class of '09 was named in the report.

You're right, duh. He's also only verballed, a la DeShawn Thomas. I don't see why he'd be named for shirt/bag and another minor wouldn't for phone calls.

UCLA crushes Oregon State, up next Oregon on Saturday. Yay.

 

Another night, another Oregon State loss which makes 16 in a row. They've only lost two Pac-10 games by fewer than 10 points (at Cal by 5 and at Washington by 9). Every other Pac-10 game as been by 10+. But hey, what do you expect from a team that didn't look very good against an 8-18 UC Davis team.

 

I predicted they'd go winless in conference last fall but, man, I feel really bad for them. I've heard it's gotten ugly for them (that incident involving Washington is part of it). They have USC on Saturday, then 3 home games against Oregon and the Arizona schools. Oregon is probably their best chance at a conference win.

From everything I've heard/read the players threatening to quit isn't true. Even so, players threatened the same when Coach Knight and Davis were fired/resigned and not much came of it. There's about no chance of a player revolt canceling the season.

 

D.J. White told the sports guy from WTHR that he would not say that it wasn't true.

If true,(and that quote from ccCub is pretty damning) I'm disappointed in White. He's been the guy through all of this that everyone seems to agree smells like a rose and deserves better. I understand his frustration with the situation after having to go through the coaching ordeal with Davis, not to mention his injuries, but still you made a committment to the school and even making an empty threat like that is bush league.

 

But again, I'm willing to wait and hear everything(cause there's a lot of reports/rumors flying) before I lose respect for him.

Yeah, the WTHR reporter implies a boycott is on the table. Still, I seriously doubt this happens. Cooler heads will likely prevail. For everything DJ White has gone through at IU, he's one of my favorite players. However, you cannot quit on your school in the middle of the season.

There is one thing I do believe though. One report has that if Sampson is fired, the players want McCallum to finish the season as the coach, not a coach in Dakich who they had never seen before the start of the season.

Reportedly, IU players will do whatever DJ White tells them to do. I'm assuming they play Saturday, but wouldn't be shocked to see some offensive black arm band or something to show they were thinking of Sampson.

Couldn't agree more. You can't let students hold the program hostage. That's why IU ended up with six years of Davis. The inmates can't run the asylum. Sampson should be gone with Dakich as interim.

 

I haven't heard anything other than Dakich taking over. I think it will be him; it should be him. If there's a boycott (seriously doubt it), IU should immediately pull the scholarships of every single player -- I don't care if it's DJ White, Eric Gordon or Eli Holman.

I feel bad for IU fans. They don't deserve this mess. At some point Kelvin Sampson needs to think about the kids and tell them to play out the year. Especially since he made a point at the MSU game talking about how this is all about the kids anyways.

The question is what do you do for tomorrow assuming those 6 are there for the game. Bench them for a half? The remaining 6 players for IU are Eric Gordon, Lance Stemler, and a bunch of trash.

The Daily Herald is reporting a buyout. But I still think it is up in the air.

No official word, they keep moving their press conference time(last I saw 6:00 (Eastern Time I think))

 

Last I heard assistants Dakich(rumored interim coach) and Meyer(named in the NCAA report) were running practice. No word if McCallum(the player's choice for interim coach) was there or not.

Saw most of them at Nick's during lunch today. (Yes, I eat at Nick's a lot. It's by the law school and a B-town tradition.)

I don't know that I'd say they are dumb. The AD/school is dumb if they allow themselves to be held hostage by 18-22 year olds when it's clearly not in their best interest.
