Rudy Carpenter is flushed from the pocket and fumbles the ball, Cal recovers and scores. 7-0 Cal over ASU.

So I am pretty sure that John Elway never even went to a bowl game, yet somehow he is the 15th greatest college player ever!!!!

Not only is Elway 15th, he's 3 spots ahead of JIM FREAKIN' BROWN. The whole "top 25" thing lost all credibility having Jim Brown that low.

Just because Jim Brown may be the greatest running back and players the NFL has ever seen, that doesn't mean he was one of the greatest college players ever. He only had 2091 yards rushing and 26 touchdowns. Here are his college stats which are nothing special. According to Wikipedia:

Although Elway never led his team to a bowl game, he had an accomplished college career. In his four seasons (1979–1982) at Stanford, he completed 774 passes for 9,349 yards and 77 touchdowns. Stanford had a 20-23 record during his tenure. His 24 touchdown passes in 1982 led the nation, and he graduated with nearly every Stanford and Pacific-10 career record for passing and total offense. He won Pac-10 Player of the Year honors in 1980 and 1982, was a consensus All-American, and finished second in Heisman Trophy balloting as a senior.

Seems to me that Elway was a more impressive college player than Brown was.

KU notwithstanding(we get a shot at them anyways), this has been nearly a perfect week for teams around Mizzou in the polls going down. Go Cal.

How do you get a false start at home when you're running the 2 minute offense?

It almost certainly won't matter, but that timekeeper on the spike was horrible. It was 23 seconds when they lined up over the ball, and they spiked it immediately. It should have stopped at 22, but then it went down to 21. As the QB was walking away, it then started again and went down to 20, and never got corrected.

jeebus. the good thing about that end is that it won't breed overconfidence. I think KU let off a bit in the end, and aTm got right back in it. We're not talented enough to go at 90% and still win.

No doubt that Jim Brown was a better NFL player than a college player, but he was still a great in college. His stats were a bit low on the counting side, but there's a few reasons for that. One obviously being that Syracuse only played 8 games a season then. Another is that Brown played multiple positions. He was the team kicker and one of the top defensive players(I forget if he was CB, S, or LB). I'm pretty sure he played on the offensive line too when he wasn't running, and did it well.

If I remember right there was some politics about the Heisman that year and him finishing only 5th, but I'm going off memory of reading about it so I can't say that as a fact.

Elway was certainly deserving of being on the list, I just feel Brown not being at least in the top 10, if not the top 5 is a joke.

USC-TN to OT.

Cal up 20-7 on ASU following a DeSean Jackson TD.

I think its quite possible to put every BYU QB from the 80s on the list if Elway made it. I dont doubt his great numbers but the top 25 players of all time should have winning as a major category. Especially QB. I think Elways NFL career is what is swaying him into being number 15. If he had a David Klingler career he would be on this list? I am guessing no.

SC misses their field goal, and another ranked team goes down.

That puts it at 8 already with USC, Florida, South Florida, Kentucky, South Carolina, Virginia, Penn State, and Rutgers. There will be a ninth for sure with Cal playing Arizona State.

Wooo OSU. Now don't crap out against Michigan this year.

Or my school, Illinois. Interesting match up, but I'm thinking Illinois is going to get creamed. Too much speed on defense to defend the option.

And LOL if the defense will hold Beanie Wells.

I think Northern Illinois is the worst team in the history of all sports.

Grats on the Buckeyes.

USC is finally dead, thank God.

Screw UF. Magically if they win out and Tenn and UGA lose at least one game a piece, they're going to the title game under any permutation. If UGA loses one and tennessee loses two, then they may be out of it. So well screw this. God their defense is terrible this season.

ASU comes from behind to beat Cal 31-20.

ASU vs. Oregon next week will be fun. Cal goes from minutes away from #1 to 3 straight losses.

From the "you have to see it to believe it" files: DIII Trinity wins on the last play of the game where they lateral the ball. A lot. Like maybe 15 times.

that was fantastic, thanks
