Felix Pie .244/.314/.370

yucky

Cal, any idea what the league average line was?

Didn't one of the newspaper articles in Chicago actually point out that Pie was slightly above league average despite that awful line? I remember reading that on the board a couple of weeks ago, but now I'm not sure where.

I found it. It was on Phil Rogers blog dated the 17th of December, so it may have changed slightly since then.

Pitchers are WAY ahead of hitters this year in the Dominican Winter League, holding batters to an OPS of about .650, which is 110 points lower than the 2007 average in the big leagues.

Bad. Approximately .244/.317/.370 (regular season only).

If you include the playoffs, Felix is now at .252/.313/.381.

Do pitchers hit down there?

No, they have a DH.

In that case, I don't see any reason to get all wound up about what is essentially a league average performance. Especially since it appeared as though he got better as the season wore on (didn't he?).

Pie is fine. Make him the primary CF. Get a RHH CF so he can face only the LHP you want him to. Don't even think about "pulling the plug" on him until the All-Star break. Bat him #7. If he hits well for an extended period, consider moving him up to #6 ahead of Soto.

That last decision would also have to depend on how Soto hits, of course.

Add in his 1-2-3 regular season inning (with 3 Ks) and you get a nice little run.

Marmol finally gave up his first hit yesterday, while getting the save in Licey's 3-2 win. He pitched 1 inning, with 1 hit, 2 SO's and a popup to shortstop. Pie had the day off.

Third straight day Felix doesn't play for Licey...either he's hurt or he got benched (which seems weird since they stuck by him when he was slumping).

Quite often the big name major leaguers will come back for the playoffs and take time away from the prospects who played the regular season. I don't know who is in the lineup, but that could be a possibility.

The guy who's playing CF for Licey instead of Felix is Jose Bautista (who's hitting .115 in the playoffs and hit .258 during Licey's regular season in 31 AB).

No Cubs got into Licey's game yesterday.

Interesting. Not the big name I would have expected. Outside of the NL Central, does anyone even know who Jose Bautista is?
