I haven't thrown or broke anything. I just decided to watch Always Sunny in Philly after the game got to be 6-2. Much more enjoyable night.

I remember 2003 and how much that hurt. I refuse to let the Cobs make me feel like that again.

Same here. I will never again be the same Cubs fan after Game 6 in 2003. I made plans to watch the WS with my grandfather that night late in that game. He died two years later. Still ticks me off to just think about that. I will never forgive that team.

Literally the only time I fight/argue with my wife is in the middle of a Cubs/Bears/IU loss. One of my favorites which happens repeatedly:

Mrs. soapy: :walks into room and looks at TV: "The Cubs are losing."

soapy: "What? Are you sure? Really? Wow. That is so insightful. I'm so glad that you're here to offer that remarkable insight. Thank you forwalking into the room and taking one glance at the screen and informing me that the Cubs are losing the game that I have been sitting here intensely watching for the last 2 hours. You are sooooo helpful."

Surprisingly, things tend to go down hill after that.

actually, yes. she's very attractive.

Sacrificing the affections of a hot girl because she's clearly a baseball moron.

Now THAT'S Old Style.

Thanks BCVM22, I really didn't expect to smile today.

I foolishly left my IM on. This girl from work whos been flirting with me decided to contact me. here's our conversation.

HER: Cubs lost.

ME: I know.

HER: awwww. 4-8. am i rubbing it in?

ME: yes. which is not the right thing to do.

HER: okay then i wont rub in the fact that they got their asses kicked

ME: and "4-8" is not even how baseball posts the score. you're coming off like an idiot.

HER:haha im sorry. ill stop

ME: i'm not joking.

HER:youre talking to a red sox fan here. i know a thing or two about utter defeat

ME: if you can name the red sox starting lineup, go ahead and talk. otherwise, you have no idea.

ME: Hell, give me three players on the roster, and ill be impressed.

HER:i cant do that. but "red sox" is one of the first things i learned to say

ME: ok then stfu. ill talk to you later.

I logged out at that point. Looks like that one's a lost cause.

Is she hot?

Doesn't matter if she's hot. Snood just blew any chance he had with that conversation. Stupid women and never forgetting anything. Sure, they might say they forgave you, but 10 years later you're still paying for it.

no way. she's interested in snood. this will improve his chances.

This man speaks the truth. Women are dumb. They are naturally attracted to people who treat them like crap.

Yeah, lots of convos tend to go like that for me as well.

Friend: Hey, the cubs are losing

Me: Well no %^&*, thanks.

I dont know why people dont like me sometimes.

03 broke my heart

04 broke my spirit

07 im pretty ok

Still a lot of time for them to crush you again. In fact, I fully expect two wins and then the real heartbreak next Tuesday. And yes, the glass is half empty in my life. :(

I've also taken these losses easier than I did 03 or 04.

But the thing is, I feel like it's got more to do with the team than anything else. I really, really liked those teams. I really, really liked that we had a scary pitching staff with 3-4 number one or number two quality starters.

I don't know, I just feel like I'd be taking this a lot worse if it were one of those teams.

snood there is only one thing you can do now with that girl at work. take her out, get her drunk, and then leave her on the side of the road. There is one other thing I can think of but it involves things that will get me banned for typing.

My girlfriend is a cardinals fan, she is cheering for the cubs. She even got excited for me when we went up 2-0. When Young homered I went outside to throw the trash away. When I got back she went to bed. She is very smart. Today she just told me, hey you aren't beat yet. Haven't even lost a home game yet. Silly optimism of a cardinal fan.

Pretty much feel the same way. I like the guys on this team, but I don't have the same faith in them. Z can be absolutely dominant, but then he was terrible at times this year as well. Lilly, well we saw that last night. And the offense? The offense drives me nuts. For years we've seen the same crappy offense built the same way, with the same results. Enough already. Try something else.

exactly... most of us realize it's over, but i guess if you're a fan of teams that actually win and do well, you don't really see things the same way

I could stand the Cubs losing to a legitimately great team, but damn it, I honestly feel the Diamondbacks and the Rockies are not that good, and this is the easiest NL road to the World Series in years, and we're crapping it away.

This is what is frustrating to me. I wont disagree with people who arent uberoptimistic about this Cubs team but please dont tell me the DBacks are good. All day ive been saying to myself..."the diamondback suck, no they really SUCK. Chris Young sucks, why throw him a fastball, there's a reason he's a .230 hitter."

I havent broken anything yet, but there are moments when i near the anger crescendo that i tell myself just dont throw anything at the TV, breaking the tv is really dumb. Im afraid i might do that if i dont keep myself in line. The broken cup pic was great.

I honestly can't say the Cubs have ever driven me to break anything. When they got paddled by the Giants in 1989, I was too young to know better and thought they would be right back in the NLCS the next year.

In 1998, I might have thrown a few things around my dorm room at IU after the Game 2 loss where Tapani took a shutout to the 9th inning but not much more.

In 2003, I mainly just flung my hat violently and then slumped back in my chair in some kind of trance of disgust.

So yeah, mainly I just yell a lot and throw my hat. Really the Bears and Pacers seem to piss me off more than the Cubs do. Meh.

I don't do much throwing stuff, but I sure do comment to the TV in a very negative fashion. For instance, when a Cub hit a GIDP, I go along the lines like "Great, just ground the damn ball into a double play, will you?"

And when Soriano was striking out, I commented something like "Jesus, my sister can swing better than that." And when Aramis got owned, I said "Well, that's what you get for facing a guy who can throw 96 mph gas right by people. Of course, No one had more BBs than K's, so they're afraid to take a walk."

Is it me or are the Cubs having trouble seeing the ball break towards the dirt? I mean, the freaking ball would be on the dirt, way before it crossed home plate, and they're swinging at it! What the hell? Where the hell is the plate discipline at?

Then another Cub hit into a GIDP, I said "Naturally." It's just frusterating. I expected better than this Mickey Mouse garbage.

I didn't notice the Lilly reaction to the homerun, because I was simultaneously doing the same thing to my hat. Thankfully my girlfriend was the one driving me to the airport after the game, because I'm about 100% sure I would have died if I were the one driving.

The only thing Ive ever thrown and broke due to the Cubs play is a remote about 6 years ago. Cubs were losing like 10-0 to Milwaukee at home, 7th inning or so. I smashed the remote...

...then the Cubs came back and won the game.

Update on Damage report: My nails. I've chewed them out so much during games. Hopefully the torture ends soon.
