No mentions of Chipper?

He should get a few votes. Gold Glove for 3B will be between him and Rammy, imo

Scott Rolen will somehow win again.

No he won't. He's missed way too much time.

Some people forget that the MVP is the guy who is most valuable to his team, not the best all around player, which is why I'll never understand Andre Dawson winning it in '89. If he wasnt there, would the Cubs have finished worse than last place?

This is why I have to give it to Prince Fielder. Hes the difference between the Brewers being a 2nd place team and a 4th or 5th place team.

Cubs won the division in 89. I'm pretty sure you are thinking of 87. While I agree on some level, he was more valuable to his team in the games they did win. Just because last place is the floor of where they could finish doesnt mean they wouldn't have been many games worse without him. In that sense he was still the most valuable player to his team. The award seems much more correlated to team success in recent years, so I doubt we'll see it again unless a player's numbers are way beyond the next best player.

The way gold glove voting goes it wouldn't surprise me if Braun won it.

In all seriousness my guess is Wright wins it because of his reputation.

Man, how do the Marlins find all these amazing young talents?

When you trade away your entire team away you're bound to find young talent.

Wright will win it. Hanley Ramirez, Chipper Jones, or Chase Utley should.

Prince has been great, but Ryan Braun has been more important to that team this year. Put Counsell and Graffanino's production in his spot and see how good the Brewers are.

Rollins has also been excellent. Chipper has been the best player when he's been healthy. Utley would have won MVP if he stayed healthy. Ryan Howard should get 0 votes. Aramis should get consideration (i.e. some top 5 votes), but won't.

My top 5.

H. Ramirez

C Jones

Utley

Rollins

D Wright

Aramis, Holliday, Fielder in the next discussion.

Chipper Jones and Hanley Ramirez are both deserving. While I generally don't like it when pitchers get MVP votes (that's what the Cy Young is for, right?), Jake Peavy will probably get some votes.

With #49 and #50 tonight I have to think Fielder is back on the map. That youngest player to ever hit 50 HR's is a great story and the carrying him on his back down the stretch is something voters eat up.

I of course mean carrying them on his back... anyone who carried HIM on their back would die.

Ender, i'd have to agree with you. He should get very serious consideration.

they were a .596 winning percentage team with those two before Braun was called up. I kid, but you could same the same thing about Graffanino taking over first base from Fielder.

Rollins has also been excellent.

yes, he's very popular amongst the Baseball Tonight crew, but puh-leaz. he's the fifth best hitter on his team, maybe a slightly above average fielder for his position. how stealing bases vaults him above so many others for mvp consideration with these two facts floating about, I have no idea.

According to VORP, Rollins has been the second best hitter on the team. Yeah, both his OBP and his SLG are 40 points behind Howard... but Howard plays first. Rollins' production for SS is great.

Holliday just look at the numbers his numbers are by far better then

Fielders other then the home run category.

Not if you adjust for stadiums...

Fielde would hit 200 HR's and drive in 10,000 in that park.

does this not in and of itself point out the flaws that arise when attempting to evaluate too many things with relation to how a AAAA player would do if filling the same role? Utley's OPS is over a hundred points higher than the next secondbaseman. Beltran is slightly behind Rowand (much like Rollins is slightly above Renterria) in OPS, other than that, noone's really even close in center.

VORP is overused. how about some consideration for value above league average, instead of the mythical replacement player, which is sure to always benefit shortstops due to the concentration on defense and total lack of offense for replacement level shortstops.

in other words, take 100 pts of OPS away from Rollins, Utley, and Rowand. Utley is still the best hitting secondbaseman in the league, Rowand is still the second best hitting centerfielder in the league, Rollins is a league average offensive shortstop, Khalil Greene territory. this tells me with certainty that both Utley and Rowand are more valuable to the Phillies than Rollins.

but to relate it all back, we are talking about MVP. who cares what the value is over a replacement player. we are talking about who pounded the ball the most throughout the year and who's contributions were most critical in keeping a team competitive.

heh, in all seriousness Holliday has an .854 OPS on the road and would be on pace for 98 R, 108 RBI and 22 HR's using his road stats. The park is just way too big a factor for him or Tulo to win the awards.

problem for your argument is, if you want to play that game, Wright, Chipper and Ramirez get more consideration than Fielder since Prince plays in a division with five hitter friendly parks and one slightly pitcher friendly park, while the others play in a division with four gigantic parks and one hitter frieldly park (and none of them play home games in said hitter friendly park).

edit - add to it the fact that the Padres, Giants, Dodgers and DBacks are four of the top five pitching staffs in the NL to favor Holliday.
