Florida still has a trip to Baton Rouge next week (I think it's next week) and games against Georgia and Steve Spurrier. It's no easy road from here for the Crocs.

I still think it's more likely than not that LSU beats Florida, which puts the winner of Tennessee/Georgia next week in the driver's seat for the East.

Right now, I see it ending...

UGA 6-2

UF 5-3

USC 5-3

UK 4-4

UT 4-4

I could definitely see that happening, but there are too many questions remaining with all those teams to say anything definitively.

For better or worse, the East is very evenly match this year. I tend to think South Carolina will have one more loss than that and Florida will have one less. If the Tennessee defense improves, I think they'll do much better than 4 losses, but that's a big if. Kentucky's offense will have to win some shootouts, but I think can beat South Carolina and one of (or maybe both) Tennessee and Georgia. Georgia's been too inconsistent to to really tell what they're going to do. Will the team that beat OK State show up, or the one that looked awful against USC?

New polls out and LSU has jumped USC for the top spot although it's only by 2 points in the AP Poll.

Top 5 is the same for both with LSU, USC, Cal, OSU, Wisc as the top 5.

Reason #293847 why nobody should ever look at the coaches poll: Florida is still ranked #7 ahead of Kentucky and South Florida. AP Poll, on the other hand, has South Florida, BC, Kentucky 6 through 8 with Florida 9th.

That's a signal that some of the AP people didn't really watch some of the games either. To have 20 voters change their mind on LSU-USC based on yesterday's games? I don't see it. I watched USC look really bad, but LSU looked pretty bad themselves yesterday.

I really like the jump to #6 for South Florida though. For what they've done so far, they deserve that ranking for now.

While I'm quite sure you're right that some of the AP people didn't watch all the games, in defense of LSU jumping USC - LSU looked bad for a half, USC looked bad an entire game.

Who knows how close those voters had them in the first place. I mean, if those voters had it basically as a coinflip, yesterday could have been enough to push them the other direction.

Plus, it is tough to watch all the games and I'm sure the AP voters make a much better attempt than the coaches do. And with so many other good games and upsets yesterday, I can't really fault them for not watching LSU-Tulane and just looking at the box score. Obviously you are going to get some AP voters who don't really do their homework but I still put way more stock in that poll.

The difference between Washington and Tulane is massive though. Washington has beaten Syracuse and Boise State while losing to USC, UCLA, and blown out by Ohio State in the second half. Tulane has gotten blown out by Mississippi State, blown out by Houston, and beaten Southeastern Louisiana.

How in the world is Boston College pushing the Top 5? That's insanity.

They've played Georgia Tech and nobody else. Next week is Bowling Green. No one will ever adequately explain to me why teams need to play cupcakes in the month of October.

I agree. There's no comparison between competition, but Washington is a team USC should have blown out and didn't while LSU blew out Tulane.

Odd reasoning? Yes, but that's the problem with polls. Pollsters use this reasoning.

OK Ill say it U of I should be ranked

let's be honest... Syracuse is awful, Western Illinois is a decent I-AA team, but not that good, and Indiana is barely average

If there was a playoff than it would be better to lose to a good team in October. Since there is no playoff, it is better to make sure that you win than play a game you may lose.

I may have ranked LSU above USC before this week. LSU didnt do anything this week to make me put them ahead of USC.

AP poll doesnt count so it really dont make a difference.

to say nothing of the rapidly sinking ship that is Penn State

I know if you lose you drop in the polls. So I wasnt surprised that Michigan St dropped. I actually would have ranked them higher after yesterdays game though. They played real well in a tough place. I really like them to finish 9-3 now. Of course old MSU can comeback and just collapse after the teams first lose.

Illinois in the 1st game of the year went on the road, lost their starting qb, and nearly beat the now #17 team in the country. They went on the road and beat a Syracuse team who has since beat Louisville, who was ranked at the time. They also beat the #21 team in the country, Penn State. I see no reason why they dont have as good of case as the teams currently ranked 23-25. Oh well when we beat Wisconsin this week by 3, they will be ranked.

Nitpick, Illinois/Mizzou was a neutral game.

Right now, they're grouped in with a bunch of teams in the minds of pollsters. They'll either get forgotten for a while or shoot easily into the Top 25 depending on how they fare against Wisconsin.

The game was in Missouri, was it in Columbia, no, but it was still a road game for IL.

And I agree, there is no doubt if they beat Wisconsin, they will be ranked.

ha ha ha. DIE FLORIDA DIE!

:D :D :D :D :D :D

Florida losing made me happy. That's all I have to say.

I was glad to see it as well. I think UK can match up pretty well against UF. If you gave straight up odds, I'd take the Gators, hopefully Lexington and a beatable pass defense can give UK some chance of knocking them off.

I don't know if you can stop that QB run thing they have. I think will be the key for you.

I can't figure out how Hawaii gets to move up when they haven't and won't play anyone good all year.

cuz the people who vote look at records only

It was in a major city nearly equidistant from the schools. The crowd was split down the middle exactly. Illinois wore their home uniforms. It was like a bowl game, neutral for both sides. I don't know why I'm continuing to talk about it since it really doesn't matter, but it is what it is.

Well Illinois still had to go on the road to play it lol. Agreed it doesnt matter

Plus they have a QB who throws for 500 yards a game against HS teams.
