Yeah. Can't really fault the Cubs for picking a person with cancer. Great way to lift the poor kid's spirits.

Pretty critical of Rich Hill earlier, but he has looked completely different the last 2 innings. Pitches are locating better and look sharper

Ability to be patient,

IsoD is a much better metric at measuring that. Ditto P/PA

to wait for a good pitch

Isn't that the same as above?

and get hits with RISP.

What about stats of a batter with RISP? What about the fact that RsBI counts the batter in homeruns?

It's not good for basing predictions on a player's future production. It fluctuates wildly depending on the quality of a player's team. I really think there are better ways to make those predictions.

The big three is doing it all today.

And I know it's a meaningless stat, but that 100 RBI line always looks nice.

RBI is not meaningless.

You're right, its worse than meaningless, its misleading.

When it comes to evaluating an individual player's performance, yes, it pretty much is.

because the stats show that batters are no better in "clutch" situations than in "nonclutch" situations.

accept the stats show Aramis is better in clutch situations year after year.

It's simply a statistical anomaly. No correlation has ever been shown in any player, ever. It's completely random.

Umm, he just showed a direct correlation with Aramis.

I respect your opinions, but we'll have to agree to disagree, I think.

RBI is not the be-all, end-all stat. However, it's one of many to consider when evaluating an offensive player.

except once again, its an anomaly. BA with RISP isn't a predictive stat.

Duke is at 64 pitches. We can chase him this inning with some patient AB's.

That'd be pretty nice if we could get their first two SPs to combine for less than 7 innings.

God, it still sickens me that we're paying almost $20 mil/year for a player whose OBP is barely 30 pts better than his BA. That is SO Jim Hendry.

Four years is a weak basis for establishing a strong correlation. His career numbers tend to show that he hits only a tick better with RISP.

funny youd say that right after he walked.

But hey, that IsoP isn't bad.
