I am saying that they are the most important stats and that only computers value OPS (which is a made up stat Billy Beane is using to trick people).

Now thats sarcasm right?

Yes, apparently something I am not good at conveying. Sorry for the confusion.

Id just assume not have another guy whose going to strike out every other at bat.

"Assume" instead of "as soon" added to the list

Personally, Id take Torii Hunter over Dunn. With him and Jacque Jones the way hes been playing, there would never be another base hit anywhere near right field again.

Player A: 266/387/556 (2007); 249/381/511 (career) age 27

Player B: 291/336/520 (2007); 272/324/470 (career) age 31

Player A, please.

Your stats don't reflect defense or the grit factor.

Adam Dunn said he's surprised more people haven't gotten hurt at Wrigley because the outfield is in such bad shape.

"That outfield is dangerous. I’m surprised more people don’t get injured out there. It’s as bad as there is. It’s worse than playing in a parking lot," Dunn said. "It looked like they had a monster truck rally. There’s potholes. It’s bad. It’s unsafe."

Am I the only one that finds this assessment to be highly dubious?

A bigleague OF with potholes?

I guess that would explain why Soriano is always jumping around out there.

But, really, the outfield does look like crap ever since they had the bright idea of holding that concert out there.

Isn't the field supposed to be torn up and redone this offseason?

Yup. Thank God. Between Wrigley and Soldier Field, Chicago sucks at keeping grass healthy

Which is surprising considering how mild their winters are. :)

If you're like me, you've been wanting Dunn for a long time. I'm guessing the odds of his coming here voluntarily are negatively impacted by this.

considering our grounds crew makes the decisions on who we sign this is a bit troubling. I am hoping he wasn't blaming the trap ball or Griffy injury on on the field

They should just put field turf down on both fields and call it a day. 8-)

Minus whale

When I first saw the original post, I originally thought of that thread we had in social or rants a while back.

And I've only ever seen "minus well," but "minus whale" is WAY cooler.

Come on now, I've definitely heard Juan Pierre described as such. Crappy, over-hyped players know no color (but yes, there are a lot more white ones).

The Cubs are 9th in the NL with 121 GIDP.

I would guess that there is a correlation between Team OBP and GIDP. Similar to the correlation between Team OBP and LOB.

Possibly, but i'd also venture to say that there are plenty of teams with a higher team OBP than us and lower team GIDP.

I looked it up. There is no correlation. At least not in the NL this season. It does appear that teams that KO less do ground into more DPs. Of course that is just looking at the NL this season. I wouldnt call that a for sure fact or anything.
