You guys ought to just LOVE this one...this is Hendry on the Kendall or Soto "dilemma"...

General manager Jim Hendry said whatever decision Piniella makes will be the right call.

"It's a good dilemma," he said. "Jason Kendall is a winning type of player. He's done awfully well for us, swung the bat very well here down the stretch. And it's good to see Soto come up and do well. It's another credit to (player development director Oneri Fleita) and our farm system this year.

"There weren't too many people mentioning Soto's name a few months ago, and he's certainly put himself in a great spot here for the future. [Piniella will] figure it out. He'll probably play them both. Enough to keep everybody happy, and then play the hot hand [at the end]."

LOL...yeah all you guys that weren't mentioning Soto's name a few months ago...sheesh...

Well, it depends on how many months ago. There weren't that many people talking about Soto in March or April. I mean, people wanted him as the backup catcher, but nobody thought he was any good.

Well we were certainly talking about him before the Kendall deal...and the Bowen deal...

Agreed. So it just depends on if Hendry meant 3 (which he's wrong) or 5 (which he's right) when he said a few months. People use few to reference so many numbers that I can't tell which interpretation to take, and if I don't know I tend to give the benefit of the doubt.

You can't seriously expect that Hendry would include a message board community in his list of 'real people'. When he says 'nobody', I'm quite sure he is talking about the organization and other organizations, not fans.

And I'm sure he is exaggerating as he often does to the media. Somebody in the organization likely talked up Soto at some point.

I admit that I might have read it wrong...and that he may have meant longer ago than he implied...fair enough. But Soto got more attention that just from NSBB. He was mentioned regularly in the farm club updates that WGN and Comcast did during the Cubs games this year.

I'm just still miffed that Koyie Hill and Bowen both got so much of a chance but Soto hasn't (until now) and now, while hitting in the .400's, is still a question mark for regular playing time down the stretch.

People here have been talking about Soto since well before this season. I think Hendry is just spewing crap. What I mean is, I don't believe he believes what he is saying. Yet, it is inexplicable why they choose to bring up Hill after Barrett was traded when clearly Soto was the better prospect.

If he's referring to fans not talking about Soto, then why shouldn't he include message board people. As far as Cub fans go, this message board probably has a lot of the most knowledgeable and enthusiastic ones.

i'm so glad that Geovanny Soto has turned into the new Dunn/Mercker/Len. I really missed that aspect of NSBB

I'd say he's more the new Murton/Dubois/Choi than anything else. The 3 names you mentioned aren't even on the Cubs team.
