I'd lead with the no hitter too, every year at least one ranked team loses early, some seasons go by without a no hitter and well baseball matters more than college football.

A I-AA team has NEVER beat a ranked I-A team. How that did not lead off SC is completely asinine.

There have been 3 No-Hitters THIS YEAR

Not often a 1-AA team beats Michigan in the Big House

You can't divide it into just Michigan though, no rookie SP has thrown a no hitter for Boston ever as far as I know, I mean if you break it down by team its just as amazing. Some guy threw a no hitter in his 2nd start ever, that is amazing. Some overrated football team lost a game early, big whup.

But thats just me.

Anibal Sanchez just did it last year for the Florida Marlins as a rookie.

I am sure if he did that today the Michigan game would lead of SportsCenter since ESPN could care less about the Marlins

after seeing the press conference, I have to ask, what other 14 year olds have thrown a no-hitter?

No-hitters happen every year. No-hitters by rookies even happen occasionally.

Yes ranked teams lose early every year also but to 1-A teams. This is the first time in the history of the 1-A/1-AA split that a 1-AA team has beaten a ranked 1-A team. At the very least it was one of the top-5 upsets in college football and was probably the biggest upset in the history of college football.

I really wasn't shocked, nor am I now that Michigan lost. Pleasantly surprised, but not shocked. Michigan was very overrated, and Appalachian State is probably better than 20% of D1 teams.

If it were USC or something, that would be shocking.

Hell, the Cards have had 2 rookie no-hitters the past 8 years.....shouldn't surprise anyone though, that damned franchise.

And both of those pitchers went straight into the toilet, which is some consolation.

I apologize if I haven't read this thread closely enough, but Buchholz has posted some really nice Minor League stats, almost Rich Hill-like with the rate stats like K/9 and H/9. Although I have no idea what Buchholz has for a pitch repertoire, I think he has a great chance to sustain his early success.

One of them (Jiminez) went right back to the minor leagues after pitching his no-no.

Z had a no-hitter. It was just stolen from him by the ump that day.

if it was a devil ray, would it have?

Of course not. If Tim Lincecum threw a 22 K perfect game, it wouldn't have led off Sportscenter.

I was not aware that Lincecum was now a Devil Ray.

Is it just me, or was that a gimme call on the last pitch of the game? Seriously, the ump hesitated then gave him the slow punch out. Its clear to anyone that watched that was a gimme call.

:?: I don't think he said he was... But he is on a team that is neither the Yankees nor the Red Sox.

Yeah, that. My point was that another non-Yankee non-Red Sox rookie phenom could have had an even better performance than Buchholz's and it wouldn't have led off Sportscenter.
