Bynum for Hart looks like a great trade. The Trachsel trade was horrible. Maybe they'll ultimately cancel out and be a wash.

If we make the playoffs and he's on the roster I'll contemplate suicide.

I don't think he'll be on the roster. I think we've seen the last of Trachsel as a Cub.

That is until during tonights game the camera pans to him in the pen and Len & Bob quickly make excuses for him.

Bob won't make any excuses for him; he's not a catcher.

There is absolutely no way he'll be on the NLDS playoff roster. He has never pitched out of the pen before and keeping Z, Lilly, Hill, and Marquis is already one more starter than you're likely to need (depending on how the schedule lines up and where they stand in the series if game 4 is necessary). The only way I see him being considered is in the event of an injury to one of the starters.

I just feel bad for Marshall. He pitched one of his best games of the year that Friday night against Arizona and then his only 2 starts after that he knew his job was on the line and he couldn't settle in. I just hope Hendry and Piniella still have him penciled in for the #5 spot next year. He's exactly what you want out of a #5: cheap, young, relatively consistent, and with a lot of upside still.

I hope they pencil him in his as trade bait to improve the offense. Three lefties in the rotation are too many and I think Marshall will always be a back of the rotation type of guy.

Why is three lefties in the rotation too many? Who would they replace Marshall with? Prior will be trying to make another comeback, but they still need a decent fallback option if he gets injured again, which isn't that unlikely.

He might not pitch a huge number of innings, but he's been more than just pretty solid for us. Who cares if that means we're using 3 lefties? The only thing that matters is the quality. I doubt anybody here would complain if our rotation was Santana, Liriano, Hamels, Kazmir, and Sabathia.

I don't hate him, but as a young player with some success at the major league level he has trade value to improve the offense. Hart, Gallager, Prior, etc can compete for the 5th starter spot if necessary.

3 lefties in a rotation is bad because the majority of hitters are right-handed and most teams do much better against lefties (except the Cubs). It might be different if you have a lefty with exceptional stuff (Santana, Koufax, etc.), but Lilly, Hill, and Marshall don't fall into the "exceptional" category.

They do fall into the "better than Marquis" category. I'd rather use a decent back of the rotation starter and have three lefties than let Marquis pitch. Regardless of what hand he throws with, he's a bum.

If they can get decent value back for Marshall, they should trade him, but I don't know what he'd bring that would be worth it.

Marquis is not a bum. He's an inconsistent pitcher who's had some excellent starts and some stinkers. He's not at all bad as a #4 or #5 starter, which is what he was signed to be. I definitely think a case can be made for leaving him off the postseason roster, but calling him a bum is way overboard.

Traschel you are old and you stink at pitching I am not happy the Cubs picked you up off the scrap heap and traded away even mediocre talent for you.

Kiss off and take your sour puss with you!

April - 2.35

May - 3.38

June - 5.09

July - 6.29

August - 4.45

September - 6.15 (after his inning today, if my math is right)

He was decent enough in August, but he hasn't been worth much since the end of May.

Please remind me who the Cubs traded for Hart and Trex? I know they were 2 separate trades but I was just wondering who the Cubs gave up for both.

They traded Freddie Bynum for Hart

It was Scott Moore and Rocky Cherry for Trachsel.

Cherry was awful for Baltimore after the trade and is now 28 years old. The chances of him re-gaining and becoming a good reliever at this time is less than 50/50.

Bynum is a low OBP above average slugging guy with great speed who plays bad defense.

Moore is the key to these two trades. He was also pretty terrible in his cup of coffee with Baltimore, but he turns 24 in a few weeks so he still has time.

So it could be a Hart for Moore. Thanks.

This is a typo, isn't it?

No it isn't. The NL slugging average this year was .422 and the AL was .423. Bynum's was .448 (and .452 for his career).
