Still hitting well enough, but he seems to missing the away and the low pitch more than usual.

I, in all honesty, don't think his depth perception is totally there. That pitch on the outside part that he used to be able to decipher as a ball or strike, he is unable to do now.

Yes, he has also been TAKING more strikes lately too, or at least thats my recollection.

it doesn't appear that his strikeout rate has gone up significantly, although his OPS has certainly tailed off since 04 Aug.

I have always wondered how good Lee would be if the umpires called his strikezone. Its obvious that most umpires dont adjust their strikezone up and down for the height of the hitter. Lee seems to get a lot of strikes called on him that are about mid ankle.

Yes, he's been striking out this season more than what i recall him doing in the past. Its obvious he's had trouble from early on in the year. I wouldn't be surprise the K levels and low HR totals are somewhat related to that wrist injury.

I've noticed him freezing on fastballs on the outside corner, and occasionally the inside corner. He doesn't seem aggressive. He is probably thinking too much up there.

His average is still nice, but I wonder if it would benefit Lee if Piniella shook up the lineup.

We're just seeing normal Lee here. People's opinion of him is skewed by his fluke 2005 season. But prior to that, and since then, he's been normal, good, but not great Lee. Another reason why the Cubs desperately need an impact bat to plug into the 5 hole (although I'd happily take a 3 or 4 hitter).

Lee looks like baseball players used to look - they have a peak year or two and then their avg years. That was before "enhancements" changed the patterns and the fans' perceptions.

Not sure about the number of strikeouts, but in the games I've watched over the past couple of weeks, he's been taking a lot of pitches that he didn't use to take.

Lee has always been somewhat patient and has always struck out a lot. I'm guessing your impression just doesn't fit the reality. Every hitter with some semblence of patience takes good pitches.

OK. Well that sucks. I have noticed that Lee's HR power is pretty much completely gone now. That's obvious of course, but it causes me no end of angst and frustration.

Not sure I follow the "what they used to look like" theory.

Lee's power is no less gone than anybody else on the team. He has 3 times the number of home runs as anybody else since the Break. He'll probably end up with 12-13 home runs on the second half, which is consistent with Lee with just about every year but 2005. His first half was way down on the power though (which might have been working up the wrist strength), but he has shown some the last month and a half.

Patient, yes. Strike out a lot, yes. Take pitches like he's taken lately, no. He's been taking a lot of pitches that he used to drive into the gap. I don't know why, but I wish he's start swinging that them.

Alright, well I'll admit maybe I'm a little spoiled from '05.
