Considering the Red Sox have a 7.5 game lead and we're almost to September, I'd say they would have the bigger collapse if they end up not winning the division.

"Go down in history" - has to be the Sox b/c it would be the Yankees that overtook them. And since there are only 2 baseball teams that are ever remembered by the media for doing anything, it has to be choice #2.

The Red Sox have been at least 12 games up this season (maybe more) while I think the largest the Brewers have been up is 8.5 games. It's definitely a bigger Red Sox collapse.

I was going to say, I don't think the Brewers have been up double digits this season. I don't think they've even been up double digits on the Cubs this season, let alone the entire division.

my mistake. i thought they had a 12 game lead at one point, but maybe they were 12 over .500. had trouble finding day by day standings

They were 14 games over .500 at 4 points, but were no more than 8 games up on any of those days.

My thoughts exactly.

Except that the Red Sox still lead by 7.5. While the Brewers have, in fact, collapsed.

I mentioned this in another thread: Ned Yost has to fired at the end of the season.

Baseballreference -> Teams -> Specific team -> Specific year -> Schedule.

It shows the game-by-game results, record after each game and the team's standing in the division.

Yes, but the poll asks what would be the bigger collapse, so I have to assume that the Red Sox would lose the lead by the end of the season.

A Red Sox meltdown would be much bigger. Nobody expected the Brewers to get off to the start they did, and haf the baseball world expected them to colapse though, not to the extent that they did.

The Red Sox have basically turned themselves into the Yankees in that they basically fill all there holes with cash, only they actually have a pitching staff.
